Wipro

Wipro founded in 1945 and it provides comprehensive IT solutions and services,

including systems integration, Information Systems outsourcing, package

implementation, software application development and maintenance, and research and

development services to corporations globally. In the Indian market, Wipro is a leader in

providing IT solutions and services for the corporate segment in India offering system

integration, network integration, software solutions and IT services. Wipro also has

profitable presence in position market segments of consumer products and lighting. In the

Asia Pacific and Middle East markets, Wipro provides IT solutions and services for

global corporations. A partnership initiated in 1987 has graduated into Wipro being the

largest partner of Sun in India. Wipro with Systems Integration expertise and Sun with

technology expertise cater to various customer needs in Banking, Insurance, and

Software development, Telecom, Education and Manufacturing. Wipro InfoTech

provides stringent processes and people skills to select the right technology for various

application environments. Wipro offers the entire range of Sun hardware and software

comprising workstations, workgroup servers, mid range and high-end servers, Java

enterprise software and storage for general applications to high performance computing.

In 2001, Wipro and IBM came together to deliver business value by combining leading

IBM technologies with Wipro's established system integration services. Wipro provides

the entire range of IBM eServers built on IBM innovations in processors, systems

management and remote system monitoring. This translates into no downtime

applications through reliable, secure and self-managing servers from IBM and Wipro.

Wipro InfoTech is the IT Services, Solutions & Products division of the Rs. 81.7 billion

wipro limited. For the year ended March 31, 2005, the revenues touched Rs. 13.96

billion, an increase of 43% year on year. Profit Before Interest & Tax (PBIT) grew by

32% year on year to Rs. 1.04 billion. With over two decades of experience, Wipro has

stamped its presence on the Indian market and leads the Indian IT industry.

HCL

HCL is started in 1975 when six entrepreneurs Shiv Nadar and five of his associates

decided to create a computer systems and services business in India. HCL Infosystems'

products offerings include everything from high end enterprise level servers for mission

critical applications to multimedia home computers. Today, HCL is a global information

technology enterprise headquartered at Noida, India and employing 25,000 people in

various locations across India, U.S., Europe, Asia Pacific and Japan. HCL Infosystems,

India’s premier information enabling and integration company offers its customers

technology solutions across multiple platforms. HCL Infosystems has partnership with

Hewlett Packard as a Systems Solution for its high end commercial and enterprise

servers, Technical Computing Workstations, Enterprise Storage solutions and

Management /Security Software Solutions. It has partnerships with some leading global

player like Intel, AMD, Toshiba, Ericsson, Microsoft, Nokia and Sun Microsystems

among others. The company forged an alliance with Sun Microsystems India Pvt. Ltd.,

to distribute the complete line of sun enterprise products with the company’s strong

system integration capabilities, the partnership offers customers a complete range of Sun

products and solutions. In commercial PC segment, which comprises of 66.5 % of total

desktop PC market, HCL sold over 3.04 lakh units in the year 2004. In this segment,

HCL's market share increased to 14.2 % in 2004 from 11.2 % in 2003. In 2004, HCL

registered an impressive growth of 60% over Q4 in 2003. India's leading PC

manufacturer and marketer, HCL, continues to be the number one brand with segment-

topping sales of 11 percent and 12 per cent in desktop PCs and PC servers in 1999-2000

countrywide. Within the branded PC segment (311,610 units), HCL holds a 23 per cent

share (72930 units). Interestingly, in both segments of desktop PCs and PC servers,

HCL's market share of the total installation of 6.63 lakh units exceeds the combined

shares of MNCs Compaq (6 per cent in desktop PCs, 8 per cent in PC servers) and

Hewlett Packard (5 per cent in desktop PCs, 3 per cent in PC servers). The brief profiles
