Direction: Pls. answer the following questions in a 1 whole short bond paper:

1.) Define Food

▪ Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for an organism. Food
is usually of plant or animal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as
carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. The substance is ingested by an
organism and assimilated by the organism's cells to provide energy, maintain life, or
stimulate growth.

2.) Why are we going to eat variety of foods?

▪ We are going to eat variety of foods because different foods provide different types
and amounts of key nutrients, it is important to choose a variety of foods from within
each food group. As a bonus, choosing a variety of foods will help to make your meals
interesting, so that you don't get bored with your diet.

3.) What are the different food categories? Give its importance or nutritional value it
can give to our body.

▪ The different food categories are the following:

- Vegetables
- Fruits
- Grains, legumes, nuts and seeds
- Meat and poultry
- Fish and seafood
- Dairy foods
- Eggs

▪ The importance of different food categories is that every food contains a variety of
vitamins, minerals, and other food chemicals and compounds, although less processed
foods in their natural form contain a more favorable combination of nutrients. Men and
women, children and adults, have different requirements for energy and nutrients based
on age, activity factors, and medical conditions.

They contain important vitamins and minerals that help prevent disease as well as fiber
which can lower cholesterol, keep the bowel healthy and help digestion.

4.) What are the basic food groups? Give at least 5 examples of each group.

▪ The basic food groups are GO FOOD GROUP which gives our body heat and energy,
GROW FOOD GROUP repairs and build our body cells and tissues and GLOW FOOD
GROUP regulate and protect our body.

▪ GO FOOD GROUP

- Sweet Potatoes, Rice, Pasta, Bread, Cereal

GROW FOOD GROUP

- Eggs, Fish, Milk, Cheese, Yogurt

GLOW FOOD GROUP

- Green Leafy Vegetables. Eggplant. Squash. Oranges. Banana.

5.) Define balanced diet?

▪ A balanced diet refers to balance of food groups or protein fat and carbohydrate, fluid,
and calories. In order to maintain optimal health and weight, an overall balanced diet is
the key. The balance of food groups, fluid, and calories is dependent on the individual.
