ETHICS

1. What is the value of life?

2. If you are a member of this fraternity, what will you do?
3. Based from the given story, what is the concept of morality that this fraternity advocates?

After reading the case of Cris Anthony Mendez I feel horrible for him and for his family how the
truth had been hidden after all events after his death. That what are the factors that made those
who murdered him conceal the truth? Is it because of fraternity? Or their too desperate not to be
put in jail.

1. First I started thinking what will I answer to “What is the value of life?” ,does Cris really value his
own life to join fraternity ? , or does the fraternity valued Cris life ?. After a couple of hours
thinking , I came up with “The value of life isn’t about one’s own feeling but the values of the
person itself” . In instance , my uncle always asked me wity my friend a logical question ,
whereas your friend was drowning and a child and you are happened to be the only lifeguard
who is on duty but you can only save one person who would it be ? . The answer I gave to my
uncle is I will save my friend because I value her more than my work , however my friend’s
respond was the opposite of mine she chose the child because of her work and the child has a
long way to go in life she’s being objective what are circumstances of whom she’ll save. Cris’s
parents valued their son’s life too much and finding justice to his death yet the murderers
valued their innocence more than their moral value of life.

2. In the case of Cris the members hid the truth who’s behind the murder for it was a closed group
of brotherhood . However, my moral values in life screaming to do something about his death ,
to do something about the hazing .It is technically forbidden, but the reality is that it still
happens and is fairly widespread and I want to completely removed it as part of initiation
process and find an alternative way to prove theirselves to a brotherhood.

3. As I picture the fraternity that Cris wanted to join , it is a extremely closed brotherhood whereas
initiation is a requirement to prove a loyalty of anyone who desire to join them . That is why
even though someone died into their initiation process , they still remain silent. For what right
to them is their values which is their brotherhood and wrong to them is ruining the fraternity by
any means. Fraternity provides power and connection yet gave misery to the weaklings and
powerless people
