CHAPTER ONE
GENERAL INTRODUCTION

Online shopping system is the process whereby customers directly buy goods
eservices from a seller in real time, without an intermediary service over the internet.

It is also seen as a form of electronic commerce which allows customers to


directly buy goods or services from the seller through internet using a web browser.
The notion that internet use has grown exponentially in just a couple of years
lead us to believe that internet commerce is expected to boom as well in the near
future. In order to justify internet commerce and internet shopping, an Online
shopping System permits a customers to submit Online or order for items or services
from a store that serve both walk-in customers and online customers.

The Online Shopping System present an Online display of an order cut-off


time and an associated delivery window for items selected by the customer. The
Online Shopping is a web based application intended for online retailers. The main
objective of this application is to make searching, viewing and selected of a product
easier. It contains a sophisticated search engine for uses to search for products
specific to their needs.

The search engine provides an easy and convenient way to search for products
where users can search for a product interactively and the searching engine would
refine the products available based on the users inputs, the users can then view the
complete specification of each product. In Online Shopping System if an
intermediary service is present the process is called Electronic Commerce (e-
commerce).
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Most shops are experienced some draw back in their operation due to the current
shopping system (manual shopping) which are:
• Lack of accuracy in customer’s record
• Slow in processing customer’s records
• Lack of proper accountability
• It does not give a customer the incredible convenience to shop at any time
of the day due to the limited working hours.
There is a need to change from manual way of shopping to a computerized way,
where customers can browse through the Internet and the system administrator to
approve requests shoppers can buy products anywhere and a database that will
maintain the products detail information.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY


The main objectives of Online Shopping System include the Following:
• The design an Online Shopping System that is secured against fraud and
ensures easy and effective transactions.
• To develop a good customer oriented system that provides customers with
quality services.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Many people nowadays are using the web to shop for a wide variety of items, the
significance of online shopping system include the followings:
• Online Shopping System is incredible convenience.
• It is always easy when it comes to accessing of customers review
• The choice of Online Shopping is infinite.
• It price is always comparison
LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
During this research work, below are some limitations that Encountered:
• Inadequate information from the staff of Avechi online shopping due to heavy
work load which occur using the manual system of shopping
• Not all the data were gotten using the primary source
• Some information were found through the internet and searching for
information was difficult due to same network problems.
Due to this reasons, the researcher may lack vital information about shopping and
may also have lapses in this work.

SCOPE/ DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY


This research work is limited to my easy study Avechi online shopping.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

1. ONLINE: An online is a condition of connected to a network of computers of


other devices. The term is frequently used to describe someone who is currently
connected to the internet.
2. INTERNET: this is a global connection of computer network co-operating with
each other to exchange data using common software standard protocols
• DATA: These are raw fact that to proposed into meaningful information

• MANUAL SYSTEM: Any system that does not involve the use of electronic

computer.

• COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM: This is process of operation of integrated

with a computer system.


• SHOPPING: Is the processing of browsing and purchasing items in

exchange of money

• USERS: An agent either human agent, (en 0 user) or software agent who uses

a computer or network services.

• SECURITY: Its objective are to establish rules and measures to against

attacks over the internet

• SHOPPING CHART: A chart supplied by a shop, especially supermarket,

to use by customers inside the shop for transport of merchandise to the check-

out counter during shopping

• ACCESSIBILITY: A general term used to describe the degree to which a

product, device, or environment is accessible by as many people as possible.

• DATABASE: A systematized collection of data that can be access

immediately and manipulated by a data processing system for a specific

purpose

• E-COMMERCE: Electronic commerce refers to the process of marketing,

buying and selling of product and services online.

• ROBUSTINESS: The ability of a compute to cope with errors during

execution or the ability of an algorithm to continue to operate despite

abnormalities in input calculation etc.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE


Nowadays, internet is not only a networking media, but it is also used as a means of

transaction for consumers at global market.

The internet is becoming popular as it is a virtual place where people share their

ideals, build communities, shape the future democratically and promote a new way

of doing business. The internet is the world’s biggest shopping mall that allows

enterprises to do their business with low cost involved, yet covering global market.

The usage of internet has grown rapidly over the past years and it has become

common means of delivering and trading information, services and goods.

However, there are so many people all over the world who used the internet to shop

for goods and services. Acco90rding AcNelsen (2007), more than 627 million

people in the world shop online. Many online shopping websites over the internet

spread like virus that broaden people choir in term of products ranging from clothes,

shoe, jewellery, electronics and even gadgets. People are very much likely to shop

online rather than going to mail s because the items are available in online are very

much accessible.

According to Limacaoca (2000), Filipinos experience themselves the convenience

and accessibility of online shopping. That is why online shopping has become an

importance part of Filipinos’ life styles as well as many people live. Online shopping
popularity continually increases over time and it appears to be no signs of slowing

down.

According to Rafael (2006), online shopping popularity has much more

usefulness it offers to people. It is more than just shopping but creating the whole

new life styles of community access to entertainment, information and much more.

There are myriad of reasons why online shopping is very popular to students and

professional.

According to Shwu-ing, (2003), Customers found benefit perception,

comprising convenience, selection freedom, information abundance, homepage

design and company name familiarity, has a significance relationship with attitude

toward online shopping. The main motivation to online shopping is that it is more

convenient than to shop in stores. In other word, convenience is the most prominent

factor that motivates consumers to shop via the internet, moreover, easy of search;

good price deal, good selection, availability, fund impulse, customer services and

der selection of retailers are additional reasons why people shop o9nline (Khatibi,

Haque and Karim 2006).


TYPES OF AN ONLINE SHOPPING CHART SYSTEM
The different types of online shopping chart system will work for both the

existing and new online business. These carts are the best tools a consumer will have

if you are starting an online business.

• READ-MADE SHOPPING CARTS: I read – made shopping cart, if

customers do not have time to construct his/her own shopping chart system he may

always look for this option, all he need to do is to choose the design from the read –

made option of the services provider.

• CUTOMED SHOPPING CHART: In this types of system, a customers may

now reply his ideas to the provider and from the ideas the team will work on the

graphic design for his own website.

• SPECIALISED SHOPPING CHART: With the customers own design if

the customer have artistic hard, he may always design the shopping chart that he

want for his business.

IMPORTANCE OF ONLINE SHOPPING SYSTEM


When it seems that the entire world is making it online be it marketing or exposure,

online shopping lags no behind it either. Be it for your business or for your person

self-online shopping is the way to go for, there are various benefits to it as it include

the under listed:

• The goods purchased by the customers are delivered at their convenience and

their disposal.
• In the online shopping world, the prices of good are affordable rather than the

offline shopping.

• Online shopping is very important because the internet allows for researching

avenue (opportunities).

• It is environmentally friendly; it does not have room for discrimination.

• Also in online shopping the choices which customer can get product are

amazing.

ROLES OF ONLINE SYSTEM


The online shopping system plays a vital role as it is designed for convenience

and ease. Instead of customers waiting on a queue (long line) in stores, customers

may shop from home simply by clicking on a mouse.

Online shopping is also rewarding, many website offers great sales and some

websites are even designed as internet bargain stores, such websites make shopping

a hassle –free and rewarding experience.

E-commerce has greatly influenced the normal living of the customers who

cannot find time to buy their basic necessity. It is also the way through which many

customers (people) have gotten different benefits and for this purpose the internet

has widen up the scope of using various internet functions. Many Ecommerce

companies provide good shopping cart which is very useful to both people and

organisation or online customers and manufacturers.


HISTORY OF ONLINE SHOPPING SYSTEM

Online sopping system (OSS) was invented in UK in 1979 by Michael

Aldrich. The pioneer of online shopping (Michael Aldrich) is an English

entrepreneur who connected his system to a modified domestic TV to a real-time

transaction processing computer Via a domestic telephone line. In March 1980, he

went on to launch Redifon’s offices Revolution, which allowed consumers,

customers, agent distributors, suppliers and services companies to be connected

online to the corporate systems and allow business transactions to be completed

electronically in real- time.

During the 1980’s he designed, manufactured, sold installed, maintained and

supported many online shopping system, using video text technology. These systems

which also provided voice response and handprint processing predate the internet

and the World Wide Web, the IBM PC and Microsoft Disk Operating system (MS-

DOS), and were installed mainly in UK by large corporations.

The first World Wide Web server and browser, created by Tim Berners -Lee

in 1990, opened for commercial use in 1991. Thereafter, subsequent technological

innovations emerged in 1994. Online banking the opening of an online pizza shop

by pizza Hut, Netscape’s SSL V2 (Secured Socket Layer version2) encryption


standard for secure data transfer, and inter shops first online shopping system.

Immediately after, Amanzon.com launched its online shopping site in 1995.

PURPOSE OF ONLINE SHOPPING SYSTEM


• E- Commerce is a rapidly growing business section across the world and

provides interesting expansion opportunities’ for retail businesses. However,

differing consumer’s attitudes across borders create barriers for expansion

and subsequent there is a need to study these differences. The purposes of

online shopping include the followings:

• To examine potential differences between customers attitudes and online

shopping intensions when purchasing apparel online.

• To contribute to the TAM by adding constructs that facilitates across-cultural

examination in an e-commerce context.

• To identify factors influencing consumers intention to use internet when

buying/purchasing products or good online.

• To see how impulse buying could manifest itself online by comparing the

offline and online medium through visual enquiry, and build on the already

extensive interaction of offline impulse buying.

CHARATERISTICS OF ONLINE SHOPPING


In order to compete against online shopping, it is clear to us that retailers are focusing

on shopping centres that provider the following favourable characteristics:

• High productivity
• Growth potential

• Efficient layouts

• Positive competitive dynamics

• High shopper traffic

These characteristics are critical for manufacturers to ensure that their shopping

centres performs ultimately, manufacturers must have a clear understanding of

the value they are creating. If the manufacturers can satisfy retailers on the above

characteristic the will have a strong shopping centre.
