Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts (Chinese: 香格里拉酒店) is the trading entity of Shangri-


La International Hotel Management Limited, a Hong Kong-based multinational hospitality
company. Founded by Malaysian tycoon Robert Kuok in 1971, the company has over 100 luxury
hotels and resorts with over 40,000 rooms in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North
America and Australia. The company's head office is in Kerry Centre [zh] ( 嘉 里 中 心 ), Quarry
Bay.

Shangri-La has 5 brands across different market segments including Shangri-La Hotels,
Shangri-La Resorts, Traders Hotels, Kerry Hotels and Hotel Jen. The five-star luxury lodgings of
the chain can be found across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Canada, Oceania and Europe.

The first hotel of the luxury Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts Group was the Shangri-La
Hotel Singapore, opened in 1971. The name derives from the mythical place Shangri-La,
described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by British author James Hilton.
Shangri-La Hotel is an award winning five-star luxury hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The hotel is
conveniently situated in the heart of the city and close to business, shopping and entertainment
districts. It is merely a five-minute walk to Kuala Lumpur’s iconic PETRONAS Twin Towers and is
only 45 minutes’ drive from Kuala Lumpur International Airport by car. Shangri-La Hotel Kuala
Lumpur offers a collection of 662 luxurious guestrooms, including 101 elegant suites with
beautiful views of the city or the tranquil gardens. The premier selection suites are located on
the top five of the 28 floors. The only hotel that sits within beautiful lush gardens also offers
extensive meetings facilities and large ballrooms that can accommodate up to 1,800 people. A
range of leisure facilities is also available, such as an outdoor pool, an executive private lounge,
fully equipped health club, a dance studio, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Shangri-La Hotel
features seven in-room restaurants and bars offering various types of cuisine from Western to
Asian. Fine dining facilities includes the Cantonese restaurant Shang Palace and the famous
French restaurant, Lafite. In 2012, it was defined by CNN as a “fine-dining institution”. The hotel
is part of the Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts and is managed by Shangri-La International Hotel
Management Ltd. It was opened on 20 April 1985, the third to open in the chain, following
Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, which was opened in1

1971 and Shangri-La’s Hangzhou in 1984. It won the public vote as the best hotel in
Kuala Lumpur at the Kuala Lumpur Mayor’s Tourism Awards 2014.Company Overview Shangri-
