In this task you will be assessed on how well you:

● Draw upon your knowledge of the structure of and, purpose for creative writing pieces.
● Use your knowledge of human experiences to help inspire your creative writing piece.
● Draw upon some of the elements from the two text studied this term, to inspire well considered and emotive
creative writing pieces.
● Reflect on how the texts studied throughout the term have shaped your writing choices and style.
Context

Throughout this unit, you have studied and analysed creative writing pieces and how they
can be purposeful and enlightening. In doing this you have looked at how creative writing
pieces can convey insight into human experiences. To assist in understanding the emotive
and informative nature of discussing significant human experiences through creative writing
you have analysed two texts, Noel Pearson’s Eulogy for Gough Whitlam and Nam Le’s
Love and Honour and Pity and Pride and Compassion and Sacrifice. Both of these texts
explore significant human experiences and offer inspiration for your own creative writing
pieces.
TASK:

This task has two parts to it, PART A (20%) and PART B (10%):

PART A:

Plan, draft, refine and submit a narrative inspired by a significant human experience.

This is a hand in task that is to be printed and handed in at the start of Period 1 on THURSDAY 5 TH
SEPTEMBER.

PART B:

Answer TWO short answer questions requiring you to reflect on how the texts studied in ‘The Craft of Writing’
influenced your own imaginative writing.

This will be completed in class on THURSDAY 5th SEPETMBER in 45 MINUTES.

Criteria for assessment:

Your narrative must:

- Be between 900-1100 words (penalties for 10% below or above the limit will apply)
- Be drafted and refined thoroughly.
- Follow the scaffold which will be taught in class.
- Make astute use of the literary techniques and structures studied throughout “The Craft of Writing”

Your reflective responses must:

- Quote directly from both your narrative and at least on text set for study.
- Be written in first person.
- Explain why and how effectively you have used a range of techniques to create meaning.

Submission Details: Printed copy of Part A to be submitted to your class teacher at the start of class with
copy of the Assessment notification and marking criteria attached.

Part B will be completed in class on writing booklets provided .

Feedback you can expect from this Task: Brief written comment will be on marking criteria feedback
sheet. More verbal feedback can be requested for a period of up to two weeks after the results have been
released.
Students are reminded of the rules and requirements relating to completion, KLA Coordinator
submission and absences for assessment tasks. You should refer to the
relevant Assessment Booklet or consult with the appropriate KLA Miss A.Elliott
Coordinator if you have any concerns or queries regarding this task.
PART 2: MARKING CRITERIA

 Reflection demonstrates a sophisticated capacity to justify and evaluate the effect of chosen
literary techniques.
 Reflection makes clear, consistent and insightful links between the student’s own narrative and
at least ONE text studied in class.
 Narrative presents an insightful and original exploration of a significant human experience.
 Narrative demonstrates a well-developed use of a range of literary techniques, structures and
features.
13-16
 Reflection demonstrates a well-developed capacity to justify and evaluate the effect of chosen
literary techniques.
 Reflection makes clear and consistent links between the student’s own narrative and at least
ONE text studied in class.
 Narrative presents an engaging exploration of a significant human experience.
 Narrative demonstrates a sound use of a range of literary techniques, structures and features.
 Reflection demonstrates a sound capacity to justify and evaluate the effect of chosen literary
