AR Route
Route Dropdown list
Select the desired route. You may type in the route name and tab out of the field to select or
select the route with the left mouse button. The route dropdown list consists of the
following:
Random
Allows you to create a user defined route for one time use (the route is not saved in the
database). Brings up the Define New AR Track dialog.
The functionality of the Define New AR Track dialog is the same as that found in the
Edit: User Route Data dialog except that this dialog includes Based on track and
excludes the save and delete buttons.
Based on track
Select from the dropdown list any route desired as a starting point for your new route.
You may modify the route as desired. Choices include None (start from scratch),
DAFIF routes (all DAFIF air refueling routes), and user defined routes.
See the Edit Menu Edit: User Route Data topic for information on all other functions of
the Define New AR Track dialog.
New User
Allows you to create a route and save it in a database. Brings up the Define New AR
Track dialog
The difference between the Define New AR Track dialog and the one shown in Random
above is the “Save track” check box next to the Track Details button.
Save track
Checked – Track will be saved in the aruser.mdb database.
Unchecked – Track is not saved. Works as though you picked Random.
[DAFIF AR Routes]
This is a list of all DAFIF defined air refueling routes.
[User defined AR Routes]
This is a list of all previously saved user defined tracks. User defined tracks can be
distinguished from DAFIF routes because they are at the bottom of the list and are
surrounded by asterisks (*). User defined routes may only be inserted into the flight plan
through the AR Tool.
Anchor/Track buttons
Normally the anchor and track buttons are grayed out. If a route is
both an anchor and a track, then the buttons are accessible and you
may choose which you desire.
Route Point
This dropdown list has all of the points in the current flight route from CFPS or FalconView.
Select the point after which you want to insert the refueling route.
Receiver Type
Select the desired receiver type. The receiver type list changes
dependant on the type aircraft for which the flight plan is being
made. KC-135’s and KC-10’s have information from their –3
manuals. All other aircraft have only the Other choice. When you
select Other the New receiver info dialog comes up.
The functionality of the New receiver info dialog is the same as that
found on the Edit: Receiver Data… dialog except this one includes
the Save Data to Receiver info file check box and excludes the
Delete Receiver button.
Save Data to Receiver info file
Checked – Information is saved in the receiver database.
Un-checked – Information is not saved (one time use only).
See the Edit Menu: Edit: Receiver Data… topic for information on
all other functions.
AR Airspeed
The airspeed set here will be inserted into the flight plan as the airspeed flown during refueling.
This airspeed is initially defaulted to 275C. When you select a receiver type, the airspeed will
change to the refueling airspeed set for that receiver. You may modify the airspeed as desired.
This box will accept calibrated (C), ground (G), indicated (I), true (T) and Mach number (M).
RZ Type
Rendezvous type.
Enroute
Select enroute for an enroute rendezvous (no orbit).
Point Parallel
Select point parallel for a point parallel rendezvous. When point parallel is selected, the
Orbit Properties Tab appears and the Make IP an OAP checkbox is automatically checked.
Wind Direction/Speed
Enter preflight or actual wind for the refueling route. The wind will be applied at all points
for the AR Route loaded or updated in CFPS.
AR Altitude
Altitude box
The altitude set here will be inserted into the flight plan as the altitude flown during
refueling. This altitude initially is zero. When an AR route is selected, the altitude changes
to an altitude designated by the first altitude block in the AR route. If the first block is an At
altitude, or an At or Above altitude, or an At or Below
altitude, then the altitude is the altitude listed. If the first
block has an altitude range, then the altitude will be 1000
feet below the top of the block (I.E. the first block is
between FL 240 and FL 290, then the altitude shown will
be 28,000 MSL). You may modify the altitude as desired.
If you pick an altitude outside the designated range(s), AR
Tool will warn you that you are outside the designated
range.
Type dropdown list
You have the choice of AGL, MSL and FL. FL only removes 3 zeros from the altitude when
displayed in AR Tool. The altitude is inserted into the flight plan as feet MSL when using
FL in AR Tool.
Cruise Flight Mode
This dropdown list has all the FPM cruise modes available for the type aircraft for which the
flight plan is being made. Select the desired cruise mode during refueling. You may modify
the cruise mode with the inputs button.
Inputs Button
Brings up the FPM Mode
Inputs dialog. The items
you can modify within this
dialog dependant on the
aircraft and flight mode
selected.
Initially, the Set ARCT button is available. Press the Set ARCT button to set the ARCT below.
Type the desired time in hours and minutes.
ARCT Applied At
Select the point from the refueling route where the ARCT is to be applied. This list will vary
depending on the route selected. It will default to the CP for a track or the AN for an anchor.
Choose Points
Brings up the AR Points dialog. Use this dialog to select from multiple points (multiple entries,
exits, etc.) or to restore points inadvertently deleted from the Summary Tab. The AR Points
dialog changes dependant on the type route selected (track or anchor).
Track
Anchor
Choose the column you want to modify and press the specify button. The resultant dialog will
vary dependant on the column selected. For instance, if we want to pick the entry point for an
anchor, pressing the specify button will bring up the Select Entry Point dialog.
Select the point(s) desired and press the OK button. Cancel will close the dialog without
accepting any changes made.
Make IP an OAP
This selection is automatically checked when Point Parallel is selected. You may check or un-
check this feature regardless of other settings.
Checked – Changes the IP to an offset aim point. The OAP will be attached to the CP or AN
point as an additional point. As such it can be seen on the map, but will not be in the flight plan
as a “fly to” point.
Un-Checked – The IP is in the flight plan as a normal “fly to” point.
Reverse Route
This selection is only available for tracks.
Checked – Adds the points from the selected track to the end of the track in reverse order. If
Make IP an OAP is selected, the reverse track will fly to the IP as the last point.
Un-Checked – No additional points are added to the track.
Initially, the Exit Time button is available. Press the Exit Time button to set the exit time below
in hours and minutes. After an exit time is set, you may remove it by pressing the No Exit Time
button. The exit time is applied to the exit point and an automatic delay is added to the point
prior to the exit. Use the Set Delay Properties button to set the desired delay properties.
Note: If Point Parallel rendezvous and Make IP an OAP are both selected, then the orbit will not
work. The delay is added to the point prior to the exit. If the AP points are converted to OAPs,
then the delay overwrites the orbit on the anchor point.
The Orbit properties tab is only available when a point parallel rendezvous is selected.
General Altitude
Type in the
altitude for the
point parallel
rendezvous orbit.
The altitude will
default to the
same altitude as
the altitude box
on the Route
Properties tab.
See AR Altitude
above for details.
Altitude Type
You have the
choice of AGL, MSL and FL. FL only removes 3 zeros from the altitude when displayed in
AR Tool. The altitude is inserted into the flight plan as feet MSL when using FL in AR
Tool.
Airspeed
Set the desired airspeed during the orbit. The default airspeed is 275C.
Leg Length
Set the desired leg length in nautical miles. The default is whatever was set when it was last
used.
Bank Angle
Set the desired bank angle for the orbit. The default is whatever was set when it was last
used.
Left/Right
Select the desired direction of turn. The default is whatever was set when it was last used.
Timing
The check box changes the type of orbit.
Checked – Creates a manual orbit. You may set the desired orbit duration to the right.
Un-Checked – Creates an automatic orbit. The ARCT is set as an orbit completion time.
Orbit Duration
Set the desired amount of time in the orbit prior to the ARCT.
Inputs
Brings up the FPM Mode Inputs dialog. The items you can modify within this dialog
dependant on the aircraft and flight mode selected.
Course
The course specifies the direction of the orbit. The orbit will
be oriented on a line between the specified point and the orbit
point such that when you complete your inbound turn you fall
on the line. In the example to the right, the ARIP is the
specified point with right hand turns.
Use ARIP
Check to point the orbit at the ARIP.
Specify
Set the desired outbound course.
Mag/True
Select type of outbound course.
Reference Point
Set any desired reference point. You may use any DAFIF point, LZ, DZ or aimpoint.
