Course Description: Health Science Foundations is the program designed to provide the beginning
Health Occupations student with the core knowledge and skills required for a variety of health
occupations. Students will learn about the historical background of healthcare, various medical career
clusters, medical terminology, body systems, medical/legal and ethical issues. Students will create a
resume and do mock job applications and interviews. They will learn to take Vital Signs, perform basic
First Aid and be certified in CPR at the professional level. The course also prepares the student to make a
decision regarding their area of interest as they apply for the Senior Medical Program of their choice, at
the end of the first semester.
Objectives/Intended Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
Methods of Instruction will include: Lecture, Practice of Skills, Group Projects, Computer Lab, Video,
Worksheets, Guest Speakers, Powerpoints and Daily engaging activities that promote a better
understanding of content
Criteria for Evaluation: Proper Scrub Attire (Tues & Thurs) Weekly grade given 30%
Presentations/Projects 20%
Quiz/Tests 30%

Be on time to class- I DO mark tardy’s, so DO bring a pass if you have an excused Tardy
When homework is due, unless you have an excused absence, I expect it to be turned in. I DO NOT
accept work turned in late, past the 3 allowable days to make up classwork.
**Sometimes I grade homework assignments, worksheets, sometimes I only check to see if they are
completed.**
****I DISMISS CLASS—NOT THE BELL…..NO lining up at the door waiting for the bell****
Come to class prepared, I won’t write a pass for items forgot in your locker, and missing work will be
considered late after 3 days of an EXCUSED absence.
