Alpha Course
If you or anyone you know is interested in finding our more about the
Christian faith, then please think about the next Alpha Course which is
scheduled to start this Thursday 03 February at 7.45pm. This is a chance
to ask about and, if you wish, discuss the evidence for the Christian faith
and the practicalities of living as a Christian. It has proved helpful both
for those thinking about becoming committed Christians and those wishing to move on in
their discipleship. More details from Pauline and Mike.
Abney 5K Trail Run

The Christian Institute
"Defending Gospel Freedom" on Wed 9th February at 7.30pm at St John's Church
Knutsford WA16 6DH - all are welcome to attend to hear the discourse and also learn of
future plans for the work of the Institute
“Lunch with Lizzie”
Ladies join us for coffee at 11am with talks by Lizzie Smallwood given at the Northern
Women’s Convention, together with a light lunch on Saturday 12th February in the Upper
Room. Invitations are available from the back of church and tickets can be bought from
Trish Wells or Anne Lucas from St Mary’s at a price of £5 each
Oasis Evening - Embracing the Poor
St Andrews are hosting an evening on behalf of Oasis, an
organisation that helps the poor around the world with 'a different
approach', at 7.30pm, Saturday 12 February. Find out more about
this special ministry in an evening that will include personal stories, videos, an interview
with the International Director of Oasis, Andy Matheson, and an opportunity to buy Jacob
Well Fairtrade products. More details are available in the foyer.
Marriage Course
Dave and Jo Clark are running another marriage course and this time the focus will be on
those either preparing for marriage or within the first two years. The first session will be
held on Sunday 13 February from 3-6pm and then on 4 consecutive
Thursday evenings in March on 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th from 7.30-
9.30pm. All meetings will be in the Upper Room.
Covie Breakfast
Before our all age children’s youth anniversary service on Sunday 13
February, we invite all young people of Covenanter age (Y5+) to join
us for a free breakfast at church. Bacon or sausage rolls, cereals,
juice etc. Food will be served from 9.30 – 10.15am
MBG
This month we are visiting The Khandoker in Didsbury (upper
room) again for our renowned Curry Night on 16 February
departing church at 8.15pm. Cost for two courses plus extras is
£15 per head inclusive of tip. A sign up sheet is in the foyer.
Bible Reading Initiative
Over the forty days of Lent we are hoping to encourage as many
people as possible to share together in working through Tom Wright’s Lent book on the
Gospel of Luke. If you want to join us, please order your copy direct from Amazon or have
a word with Malcolm or Mike who should be able to source you a copy for around £5. We
also intend to use this material in some of our home groups this term and provide feedback
in Sunday services during Lent.
St Cuthbert’s Houseparty
If you have not already decided to attend the 2011 St Cuthbert’s
Houseparty please think seriously about doing so as it represents an
unrivalled opportunity for the church to be together in way that is not
normally possible. Full details are contained in the comprehensive

Due South
Due South provides a great holiday and learning experience for
children aged 10 – 14 years. Many of you are aware of it, but if you
are not please visit the YFC website or speak to Andy McCormick as
soon as possible
Old books
Mike is slowly clearing out books from the church office and has placed several which are
surplus to requirements in the hall. Please help yourself
Finance Officer Vacancy at St James' & Emmanuel
This post has responsibility for the day-to-day finances of the Parish and giving
administrative support to the Parish Administrator as required. The applicant will need to
have good knowledge & practical experience of book-keeping, accounting, payroll and gift
aid and be PC literate. The role is part time, 15-18 hours, based in the Parish Office but
