POSITION PAPER

Even though there have been numerous events like the practice of same-sex marriage, growing cultural
acceptance for LGBTQ people and Yearly pride parades or celebration that has been in favor for the
LGBT community. There are still some Lawyers, politicians, and judges that have started or returned in
continuing the fight over whether federal law should protect LGBTQ citizens from being fired, denied a
rental lease, or refused service because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The issue or topic
that I have chosen to tackle is LGBTQ rights. I have selected this issue because I think it is unfair that
discrimination towards LGBTQ is still being practiced. I have a lot gay uncle’s in my Father’s side, and I
know the struggles they have been through. For example, my uncle Ramil, He graduated with a degree
in mechanical engineering and was not able to use it as he had problems in passing numerous
interviews. I think his gender orientation was a big factor in not getting the job he deserves

In 2012, The Philippines with the help of lawmakers and school administrators took bullying of LGBT
young adults as a crime and there were interventions and seminars to educate the youth but the laws or
policies that has been set is not being implemented sufficiently enough, It is strong on paper but with
Lack of efficient implementation and proper supervision, many LGBT people particularly kids
continue to  be bullied and abused in school. LGBT persons continue to face systematic inequality and
discrimination. Between 11 percent and 28 percent of LGB workers complains on not getting promoted
or being fired or even being hired by a company this is due to their sexual orientation. My stand on this
issue is that people do still discriminate LGBTQ people. We are on the 21st century and we should act
like it; we should improve our laws towards LGBTQ and not just them we all should improve as a
community and not downgrade.

I learned that LGBTQ does have a huge problem with their rights. I read an article that said that even in
some Churches they decline to offer service just because of the sexual orientation. I also learned that
even though you have served long and well for your country but you are a part of LGBTQ community
they find was in maltreating you and lastly I learned that it is hard to build a family if you are a part of
the LGBTQ community since in some states same sex marriage is not allowed and even you get married
adopting is basically impossible. My thoughts about this issue is that no matter what you do or where
you live, rich or poor, good or bad once they see you that you are different from them they will find
ways in making your life miserable.
