Para Sa Bayan. Para Sa Bayani:
2 Minutes of Rizal
Why Study Rizal and His Works?

As time passed by, Rizal and his work are easily remembered as a “hero” which
inspired the people to stand up against the Spanish colonization, but they cannot easily
remember the “why and how” Rizal was able to inspire those Filipinos. Today’s
generation can get distracted and bored easily, which is why some students do not
really pay attention when it comes to the long history of Rizal’s life. As a student, I can
relate to that mindset, in order to teach Rizal and his work to students especially the
college ones, I would create a short 1-minute video of reintroducing Rizal, not as the
almost-perfect Rizal, but as a Rizal with his failures, doubts, and life as a normal boy
that youth can easily relate themselves to. It would include pieces of information that are
usually taught or disclose in classrooms, this information would paint Rizal not just as a
person that is out of our league, but as someone that we also become if we only put his
ideals into practice. The video would only last 1-2 minutes so that it could be posted in
any platform of social media and since it would be short, it won’t be long enough for the
audience to say that they don’t have the time to watch but it would be enough to spread
awareness and the message could be delivered. The second part of the project would
focus more on the Rizal bill, controversies, and the importance of studying Rizal’s works
that made significant contributions in nationalist literature. Rather than focusing on the
content of his works, the video would emphasize the importance of reading nationalist
literatures such us his works to the progression of our country and society. The video
would contain animations, dynamic typography, pictures and voice over that would
immerse the audience by providing visuals. Since the youth nowadays encounter
hundreds of texts, videos and such, through the video, it would be able to maximize the
digital tools that we have right now. Thus, students can easily access the video and
provide them learning through a short, fun and engaging videos. It would contain
information that can help them grasp or understand deeper the course of Rizal and his
work. Moreover, a human brain can easily process visuals compared to text which
sometimes cannot engage all audience since some of them are not a fast reader. Using
visuals, they would be able to retain and recall the information on the video. I would like
to create a video or project that is similar to videos in Ted-Education in YouTube, since
in my own experience, the way the information was presented is engaging as well as
informative. Furthermore, students are becoming demotivated to read and study the
lesson with regards to Rizal. Thus, Instructors could also used this video to present to
their students and integrate them to their lectures, discussions or activities which could
provide the students general knowledge. Overall, the project aims to provide the
audience pieces of information that weren’t usually taught in schools especially during
the secondary level. It would be entitled as Para Sa Bayan. Para Sa Bayani: 2 Minutes
of Rizal and Why Study Rizal and His Works?
