Content Standards:
• 5.4.12.G.2 - Explain the unintended consequences of harvesting natural resources from an ecosystem.;
• 5.4.12.G.4 - Compare over time the impact of human activity on the cycling of matter and energy
through ecosystems.
• 5.4.12.G.6 - Assess (using scientific, economic, and other data) the potential environmental impact of
large-scale adoption of emerging technologies (e.g., wind farming, harnessing geothermal energy).
• 8.1.12.A.3 - Participate in online courses, learning communities, social networks, or virtual worlds and
recognize them as resources for lifelong learning.
• 8.1.12.A.4 - Create a personalized digital portfolio that contains a résumé, exemplary projects, and
activities, which together reflect personal and academic interests, achievements, and career
aspirations.
• 8.1.12.C.1 - Develop an innovative solution to a complex, local or global problem or issue in
collaboration with peers and experts, and present ideas for feedback in an online community.

Instructional objective(s): SSBAT utilize the power of a blog to communicate with others to
construct a top ten list of how the average person is wasteful to our environment.
ACTION
Before-class preparation: Introduce various topics involved in “Going Green.” (i.e. Energy, Water,
Waste, Financial, Traveling, Resources, etc.)

During class

Green” Social Networks (i.e. facebook,
MySpace, AOL, etc.)
Second Period – Load Blog on
Blogger and demonstrate how
to publish to various social
networks for participation
Notes: (Student groupings, environmental modifications needed, etc.) Be sure to review safety protocols for publishing
and rules for blogging. Explain proper ways to respond and regulate blog.
MONITOR
Ongoing assessment(s): Collect blogs through an RSS compiler to review activity of student’s
blogs.

Accommodations and extensions: Students will be given extra help before and after school.
Students will be able to email teachers for help.

Backup plan: Create large posters to place outside the classroom for students, teachers, and others
to add answers to the same questions. (Hard copy blog)
