Welcoming Statement

In the name of Allah, the most Gracious the

most Merciful. Peace and blessings be upon our be-
loved prophet Muhammad.

Asalaam Alaikum brothers and sisters.

Greetings of peace to everyone from MAS Youth
Bronx as we welcome the New Year. MAS Youth is
presenting you this newsletter as part of our effort of
“[striving] for God-Consciousness” and “[conveying]
Islam with utmost clarity.” We hope this paper will
be of great benefit for everyone in the community
and a way to bring us closer to Allah (SWT) and
insha Allah you will enjoy reading it.

We ask Allah (SWT) to make us of those

whom He blesses and we ask Him to grant us his
mercy, forgiveness, and Paradise. Ameen.

 Why Not Turn Our Dreams Into Reality ?

I thank Allah SWT, with whose blessing good deeds can be com-
pleted. It is the time of year where many people will attempt to de-
velop their New Year’s plan. Whether you have one resolution or a
thousand, wouldn’t it be a fabulous accomplishment to be able to say
to yourself that 2011 is the year where you will stop dreaming about
accomplishing your resolutions and actually start doing them?
Dreaming about what you want to get done is not a bad thing, but
many of us seem stuck when we keep thinking about it instead of
making it happen. To help us start the New Year right, we need to
change our Mental Map. The people that are most successful are
the ones that change their perceptions of what they can do to what
they must do.
If you want to kick your New Year off right, then consider heading
to join us (BRONX MAS-YOUTH) and be a part of our work to
serve the Creator through serving His creation. Whatever your goal
may be, we all try to believe that things can change overnight. MAS
Youth is waiting for the new blood to help out carrying the mission
with clear understanding and dedicating to keep the work going for
the sake of Allah SWT.
Take Action Now! Don’t wait until someone else take the step. Be
that one, throw away all your thinking and dreams, and start making
them real, and be sure, yes we can do it together, make the next step,
create your plan and keep moving forward.
Don’t wait for something to happen. IF you want to be successful
and if you want to please ALLAH SWT, then wake up, get out and
start moving, and let’s get out there together as young Muslims and
do it right now! It is the best way to get you started in accomplishing
your goals and making the change we been dreaming about. Your
dream is in your hand, see what you will do with it.

‫اظﻦ اﻧﻜﻢ ﺗﻮاﻓﻘﻮﻧﻨﻰ ان ھﺆﻻء ﺟﻤﯿﻌﺎ ﻻ ﯾﻤﻜﻦ ان ﺗﺴﻤﻊ ﻣﻨﮭﻢ ھﺬه اﻟﻜﻠﻤﺔ وﻻ ﯾﻤﻜﻦ ان ﯾﺴﻌﻮا ﻻﻧﻘﺎذﻛﻢ‬

‫ﻣﻄﻠﺐ ﻟﻜﻞ ﺷﺎب وﻓﺘﺎه ﯾﺪﯾﻨﺎ ﺑﺎﻻﺳﻼم ﻓﺎﻟﯿﻚ اﺧﻰ واﺧﺘﻰ ھﺬه اﻟﺼﻮر اﻟﺤﯿﮫ اﻟﺘﻰ ﻧﺮﯾﺪ أن ان ﯾﻜﻮن ﻋﻠﯿﮭﺎ‬

‫اﻧﮭﻢ اﻟﺸﺒﺎب اﻟﺼﺎﻟﺤﻮن ‪,‬ﺗﺮاھﻢ ﯾﺘﺴﺎﺑﻘﻮن ﻟﻠﻤﺴﺎﺟﺪ ﺣﯿﻦ ﯾﺘﺴﺎﺑﻖ ﻏﯿﺮھﻢ ﻟﻠﻤﻼﻋﺐ ؟‬
‫ﯾﺘﺴﺎﺑﻘﻮن ﻟﺤﻠﻘﺎت اﻟﻌﻠﻢ ﺣﯿﻦ ﯾﺘﺴﻜﻊ اﻻﺧﺮون ﻓﻰ اﻻﺳﻮاق واﻟﺸﻮارع ؟ﯾﻌﻠﻨﻮﻧﮭﺎ وﺑﻜﻞ ﻓﺨﺮ وإﯾﻤﺎن أﻧﺎ‬
‫اﻟﻤﺴﻠﻢ ﻻ ﻛﺬب ‪,‬وأﻧﺎ اﻟﻤﻮاطﻦ اﻟﺼﺎﻟﺢ أﺳﯿﺮ ﻧﺤﻮ اﻟﻌﻄﺎء ﺑﻜﻞ ﺟﺪ وﺑﻼ ﺗﻌﺐ؟‬
‫وﻓﻰ ﺛﻠﺚ اﻟﻠﯿﻞ اﻻﺧﺮ ﯾﺒﻜﻮن ﺑﯿﻦ ﯾﺪى ﷲ ﺣﯿﻦ ﯾﻨﺰل اﻟﻰ ﺳﻤﺎء اﻟﺪﻧﯿﺎ ﺑﯿﻨﻤﺎ ﯾﺴﮭﺮ ﻏﯿﺮھﻢ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻣﻌﺼﯿﮫ ﷲ ؟‬
‫ﺧﻠﻒ ﺟﮭﺎز اﻟﺤﺎﺳﻮب ﻣﻦ أﺟﻞ دﻋﻮة آﻣﻨﻮا ﺑﮭﺎ وﻋﻤﻞ ﺗﻌﺎھﺪوا ﻋﻠﻰ إﻧﺠﺎزه ﻋﻠﻰ ﺧﻄﻰ ﻋﻠﻲ وزﯾﺪ‬
‫وأﺳﺎﻣﺔ ‪......‬وﻟﯿﺲ ﺑﯿﻦ أﺣﻀﺎن اﻟﻠﮭﻮ واﻟﻤﻌﺼﯿﺔ وﻣﺎ أدراك ﻣﺎ ﺳﮭﺮ اﻟﻠﯿﺎﻟﻲ ؟؟‬
‫اﺧﻰ اﺧﺘﻰ اﻟﺘﺨﻠﻲ ﻋﻦ رﻓﻘﮫ اﻟﺴﻮء ﻗﺮار ﺻﻌﺐ ﻟﻜﻦ ﻻﺑﺪ ﻣﻦ اﻟﺘﻀﺤﯿﮫ ﻓﮭﻮ ﻗﺮار اﻣﺎ ﻋﺎﺟﻼ او اﺟﻼ وﻗﺪ‬
‫ﺗﺴﺎﻟﻨﻰ ﻛﯿﻒ ذاﻟﻚ؟؟ ﻓﺎﻗﻮل ﻟﻜﻢ‬
‫ﻗﻮﻟﮫ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ‬
‫و َ ﯾ َﻮ ْم َ ﯾ َﻌ َﺾ ﱡ اﻟﻈ ﱠﺎﻟ ِﻢ ُ ﻋ َ ﻠ َﻰ ٰ ﯾ َﺪ َ ﯾْﮫ ِ ﯾ َﻘ ُﻮل ُ ﯾ َﺎ ﻟ َﯿْﺘَﻨ ِﻲ اﺗ ﱠﺨ َﺬ ْت ُ ﻣ َ ﻊ َ اﻟﺮ ﱠ ﺳ ُﻮل ِ ﺳ َﺒ ِﯿﻼ ً‬
‫ﯾ َﺎ و َ ﯾْ ﻠ َﺘَﻰ ٰ ﻟ َﯿْﺘَﻨ ِﻲ ﻟ َﻢ ْ أ َﺗ ﱠﺨ ِ ﺬ ْ ﻓ ُﻼ َ ﻧ ًﺎ ﺧ َ ﻠ ِﯿﻼ ً اﻟﻔﺮﻗﺎن ‪28، 27‬‬
‫ﻓﻼ ﺑﺪ وان ﻧﺘﻌﺠﻞ اﻟﻘﺮار وﻟﻨﻜﻦ ﻣﻌﺎ ﻋﻠﻰ طﺮﯾﻖ اﻟﺪﻋﻮة ﻛﻤﺎ ﻛﺎن اﻟﺤﺒﯿﺐ وﻗﺮة اﻟﻌﯿﻦ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲ ﻋﻠﯿﮫ‬
‫وﺳﻠﻢ‪ ,‬ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻮا ﻣﻌﻨﺎ ﻧ ُﻘﯿﻢ ﻋﺒﺎدة وﻧﺤﻲ ﺳﻨﺔ و ﻧﺮﻓﻊ راﯾﺔ اﻟﻌﻠﻢ واﻟﻌﻤﻞ ‪,‬ﻣﻌﺎ ﯾﺪا ً ﺑﯿﺪ ﻧﺼﻨﻊ اﻟﺘﻐﯿﺮ اﻟﺬي ﻧﺤﻠﻢ‬
‫ﺑﮫ ‪.‬‬
‫اﺳﺄل ﷲ ان ﯾﮭﺪﯾﻨﺎ واﯾﺎك أﺧﻲ أﺧﺘﻲ اﻟﻘﺎرأة ﻟﺼﺮاطﮫ اﻟﻤﺴﺘﻘﯿﻢ وﯾﺜﺒﺘﻨﺎ ﻋﻠﯿﮫ اﻧﮫ ﺳﻤﯿﻊ ﻣﺠﯿﺐ‬

tion from the stresses of the world

the right page! Come join MAS
Youth Bronx sisters every Friday
4:30-6:00 pm and brothers from
7:00(after Isha)-9:00 as we discuss
topics concerning you! Yes, we
derive lessons from the Qur’an and
Sunnah which essentially help us
survive or rather live as Muslim
youth in the West. We promise that
you will not regret the experience,
as there is a lot in it for you!
“What’s in it for me?” you ask?
Well, one thing for sure is that you
will gain much reward from Allah
(SWT) and on top of that, you’re
going to build great companion-
ships, gain lots of knowledge, feed
your soul with tranquility and have
a great time! Wait, there’s more!
“Really?” Muslims don’t lie; of
course there’s more! You’ll learn
to bring Islam alive in all of your
daily actions, making you not only
a good Muslim but a successful
human being in every aspect of
your life, insha’Allah. Yes, all of
that in one package! And guess
what, it’s priceless! What more can
you ask for? Now that you’ve
agreed, keep a heads up for our
Qur’an memorization program
provided for all different levels,
and any of our upcoming activities,
as well as, events in the Bronx
Muslim Center.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "If you guarantee me six things on your
part I shall guarantee you Paradise : Speak the truth when you talk, keep a promise when
you make it, when you are trusted with something fulfill your trust, avoid sexual immoral-
ity, lower your gaze (in modesty), and restrain your hands from injustice."

 Sharing Islam With Our
Neighbors
Over the summer of 2010, we,
MAS Youth Bronx took the initia-
tive to educate those around the
Bronx Muslim Center community
through a one weekend Islamic
Awareness Campaign. Hoping to
gain the best success through this
experience, we set up tables filled
with Dawah material; English and
Spanish pamphlets loaded with
information about Islam that were
handed out to several non-Muslims
roaming down the streets of Rhine-
lander Ave. and Pelham Park,
clearing some of the biggest mis-
conceptions out there. We distrib-
uted water, juice, balloons and
candy to intensify the merriness of
the experience, placing smiles on
the faces of both children and
adults alike. Although reaching out
to Non-Muslims was our main fo-
cus, Muslims too were affected by
this campaign, as one Muslim even
confessed to us of his desire to
learn more about Islam and become
a “good Muslim”.
We referred our brother to the
Bronx Muslim Center and a smile
covered his face, so happy to see
that there was actually a Muslim
community beside him. The experi-
ence as a whole, made us as Mus-
lim youth living in the West realize
our responsibility to educate others,
such as our neighbors and commu-
nity about Islam. We hope to or-
ganize another awareness campaign
quite soon, so keep an eye out!
Here is the story of an Imam who got up
after Friday prayers and announced to the
people:"I have good news and bad news.
The good news is, we have enough money
to pay for our new building program. The
bad news is, it's still out there in your
pockets."

 Eid In The Bronx
MAS Youth Bronx stepped up its
game this year with both exciting,
but quite different Eids. This joy-
ous occasion was prepared and
organized by the Bronx youth,
bringing smiles to the children’s
faces and spreading the holiday
mood to everyone in the small
community.
Eid Al Fitr, which was cele-
brated in our local park, was
widely decorated with colorful
balloons and banners. Along with
the decorations, the Bronx MAS
youth also made more than 500
goody bags and hundreds of bal-
loons given to the children.
It was pleasing to see that our
small effort brought happiness to
the families of those attending the
prayer. Furthermore, all of these
moments were captured for every-

Eid Al Adha, celebrated in the
Bronx Muslim Center, was cov-
ered with decorations and goody
bags, made by our youth, ready to
be handed out to the children. Our
youth also took the initiative to
write a formal absence letter to be
sent to public schools since Eid
landed on a school day. In fact, one
goal of ours is to bring the spirit of
Eid alive in the hearts and minds of
every individual, especially the
kids. Nevertheless, all the effort
and sleepless nights paid off after
seeing how our community felt.
We as MAS Youth Bronx be-
lieve that first and foremost, as a
community, we must change the
way we practice Islam; Islam, is
not merely a word of faith but
rather, it is a way of life. Further-
more, as youth, and as a commu-
nity, we have many challenges to
face, but, change comes with unity,
passion, and dedication. By the
will of Allah, we will succeed.

An Imam shocked his community when he announced that he was resigning

from that particular Masjid and moving to a drier climate. After the ses-
sion, a very distraught lady came to the Imam with tears in her eyes, "Oh,
Imam, we are going to miss you so much. We don't want you to leave!" The
kind hearted Imam said "Now, now, sister, don't carry on. The Imam who
takes my place might be even better than me". "Yeah", she said, with a tone
of disappointment in her voice, "That's what they said the last time too . . . "

‫وﯾﺒﻌﺚ اﻷﻟﻢ ان ﻧﺮى ھﺬا اﻟﺸﺒﺎب اﻟﻘﻮي اﻟﻌﺘﯿﺪ‬
‫ﯾﺠﻌﻠﻮﻧﻚ ﺗﺴﺘﻨﺪ ﻋﻠﯿﮭﻢ ﻓﻲ ﻣﺼﺎﺋﺒﻚ‬
‫ﯾﻤﻠﺆه اﻟﻔﺮاغ‪ ،‬ﻟﯿﺲ ﻓﺮاغ اﻟﻮﻗﺖ ﻓﺤﺴﺐ ﺑﻞ ﻓﺮاغ‬
‫اﻟﻌﻘﻞ واﻟﺮوح واﻷﺧﻼق‪ ،‬وﻛﺄﻧﮫ أرﯾﺪ ﻟﮫ ان ﯾﺘﻌﻠﻢ ﺣﯿﻦ َ ﺗ ُﻨﺎﺟﻲ رﺑﻚ ﺑﺨﻀﻮع وذل ودﻣﻮع ﻛﺄﻷﻧﮭﺎر‬
‫وﺑﻘﻠﺐ ﻣﻠﺆه اﻟﺸﻮق اﻟﻰ رؤﯾﺎه‬
‫ﻛﻞ ﺷﻲء اﻻ ﻣﺎ ﯾﻨﻔﻌﮫ‪ ،‬وان ﯾﺸﺘﻐﻞ ﺑﻜﻞ ﺷﻲء اﻻ‬
‫ﺣﯿﻦ َ ﺗ ُﺪرك أﻧﻚ ﻟﯿﺲ إﻻ ﻋﺒﺪا وﻟﯿﺲ أﻣﺎﻣﻚ إﻻ‬
‫ﻣﺎ ﯾﺼﻨﻊ ﻟﮫ ﺣﻀﺎرة وﻣﻜﺎﻧﺔ‪ ،‬وان ﯾﻜﻮن اﻷﻣﺮ‬
‫أن ﺗﺤﯿﻰ ﻣﺴﻠﻤﺎ ً وﺗﺤﺮص ﻋﻠﻰ أن ﺗﻤﻮت ﻣﺆﻣﻨﺎ ً‬
‫اﻟﻌﻈﯿﻢ ﻋﻨﺪه اﻻ ﯾﺤﻤﻞ ﺗﺒﻌﺔ أﻣﺮ ﻋﻈﯿﻢ ﻛﻌﻈﻤﺔ‬
‫ﺣﯿﻦ َ أن ﺗﻘﻮﻟﮭﺎ وﺑ ِﻜﻞ ﻓﺨﺮ ٍ أﻧﺎ ﻣ ُﺴﻠﻢ وﻟﻦ أﻗ ْﺒﻞ ﻏﯿﺮ َ‬ ‫ھﺬا اﻟﺪﯾﻦ ‪.‬‬
‫ﯾﺎ ﺷﺒﺎب اﻻﺳﻼم‪ :‬ﻣﻦ ﯾﺤﻤﻞ ھﻢ اﻻﺳﻼم ان أﻧﺘﻢ اﻻﺳﻼم َ دﯾﻨﺎ وﻣﻨﮭﺎج ﺣﯿﺎة‬
‫ﺗﺨﻠﯿﺘﻢ ﻋﻦ ذﻟﻚ ورﻛﻨﺘﻢ ﻟﻠﮭﻮ واﻟﻠﻌﺐ؟‪.‬‬
‫ﯾﺎ ﺷﺒﺎب اﻟﺘﻐﯿﺮ‪ :‬ان ﻟﻢ ﺗﻨﻄﻠﻖ ﺑﺤﻤﺎﺳﻚ اﻵن !‬
‫ﻓﻤﺘﻰ ؟ أﺗﺮﯾﺪ أن ﺗﻜﻮن ﺗﺎرﯾﺨﺎ ﻣﻨﺴﯿﺎ‪ ،‬ﻧﺤﻦ‬

‫ان ﺗﻨﺴﻰ ﻧﺼﯿﺒﻚ ﻣﻦ اﻟﺪﻧﯿﺎ وﻣﻠﺬاﺗﮭﺎ وﻟﻜﻦ أﯾﻦ‬
‫ﺣﻖ اﻟﻌﻘﻞ ﻋﻠﯿﻚ؟ أﯾﻦ ﺣﻖ اﻟﺪﯾﻦ ﻋﻠﯿﻚ؟ أﯾﻦ ﺣﻖ‬
‫ﻗ ُــﻞ ‪ ..‬ﻟﻠﻨﻔـﺲ‬ ‫اﻟﺠﺎﻟﯿﺔ واﻟﻤﺠﺘﻤﻊ ﻋﻠﯿﻚ؟‬
‫ان أﺳﻮأ ﻣﺎ ﯾﻤﻜﻦ ان ﯾﻘﺘﻞ اﻹرادة ﻓﯿﻨﺎ ان ﻧﺆﻣﻦ‬
‫ﺑﺄﻧﻨﺎ ﻋﺎﺟﺰﯾﻦ ﻋﻦ إﺣﺪاث اﻟﺘﻐﯿﺮ اﻟﺬي ﻧﺤﻠﻢ ﺑﮫ ‪ .‬ﻗ ُــﻞ ‪ ..‬ﻟﻠﻨﻔـﺲ إن ﻛﻨﺖ وﺣﯿﺪا وﺗﺎﻗﺖ ﻟﻠﺬﻧﺐ‬
‫ﻟﻘﺪ ﻛﺘﺐ اﻷدﯾﺐ اﻟﺮاﺋﻊ ﻣﺼﻄﻔﻰ ﺻﺎدق اﻟﺮاﻓﻌﻲ واﺣﺘﻤﺖ ﺑﺎﻟﻈﻼم ‪ ..‬ﯾﺎ ﻧﻔﺲ ﻛﻔﻰ إن اﻟﺬي ﺧﻠﻖ‬
‫اﻟﻈﻼم ﯾﺮاﻧﻲ‬ ‫ھﺬه اﻟﻜﻠﻤﺎت اﻟﺮاﺋﻌﺔ ﻓﻲ ﻣﻘﺪﻣﺔ إﺣﺪى ﻣﻘﺎﻟﺘﮫ‬
‫ﻓﻘﺎل ‪:‬‬
‫ﻛﯿﻒ ﯾﺴﺘﻮطﺊ اﻟﻤﺴﻠﻤﻮن اﻟﻌﺠﺰ وﻓﻲ أول دﯾﻨﮭﻢ ﻗ ُــﻞ ‪ ..‬ﻟﻠﻘﻠـﺐ إن ﻏﻠﺐ ﻋﻠﯿﮫ اﻟﺮ ﱠان واﻋﺘﺎد ﻋﻠﻰ‬
‫اﻟﺨﻤﻮل واﻟﻨﺰﺣﺎن‬ ‫ﺗﺴﺨﯿﺮ اﻟﻄﺒﯿﻌﺔ؟‬
‫ﯾﺎ ﻗﻠﺐ ﻟﺴﺖ ﻣﻠﻜﻲ ﻓﺎﺧﻔﻖ ﻣﻦ ﺧﺸﯿﺔ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﺎن‬ ‫ﻛﯿﻒ ﯾﺴﺘﻤﮭﺪون اﻟﺮاﺣﺔ‪ ،‬وﻓﻲ ﺻﺪر ﺗﺎرﯾﺨﮭﻢ‬
‫ودع اﻟﺨﻤﻮل واﻟﻜﺴﻞ ھﺬه ﺻﻔﺎت ﺟﺒﺎن‬ ‫ﻋﻤﻞ اﻟﻤﻌﺠﺰة اﻟﻜﺒﺮى؟‬
‫ﻛﯿﻒ ﯾﺮﻛﻨﻮن إﻟﻰ اﻟﺠﮭﻞ‪ ،‬وأول أﻣﺮھﻢ آﺧﺮ‬
‫ﻗ ُــﻞ ‪ ..‬ﻟﻠﻌﯿـﻦ إن أطﺎﻟﺖ اﻟﻨﻈﺮ إﻟﻰ اﻟﺤﺮام‬ ‫ﻏﺎﯾﺎت اﻟﻌﻠﻢ؟‬
‫ﻛﯿﻒ ﻻ ﯾﺤﻤﻠﻮن اﻟﻨﻮر ﻟﻠﻌﺎﻟﻢ‪ ،‬وﻧﺒﯿﮭﻢ ھﻮ اﻟﻜﺎﺋﻦ وﺗﻤﺘﻌﺖ ﺑﺮؤﯾﺔ اﻟﺤﺮام‬
‫ﯾﺎ ﻋﯿﻦ ﻛﻔﻰ ‪ ..‬ﻓﻤﻦ ﺟﻌﻠﻚ اﻟﯿﻮم ﺗﺒﺼﺮﯾﻦ ﻏﺪا‬ ‫اﻟﻨﻮراﻧﻲ اﻷﻋﻈﻢ؟‬
‫ﯾﺪﺧﻞ ﻓﻲ طﯿﺎﺗﻚ اﻟﻨﯿﺮان‬

‫ﻧﻌﺎﻧﻲ اﻟﯾوم‬
‫ﻣن ﻣﺷﺎﻛل‬
‫ﻓﻲ اﻟﺳﻠوك‬
‫وﻟﻐﺔ‬
‫اﻟﺧطﺎب‬
‫اﻧﻣﺎ اﺻﻠﮭﺎ‬
‫ﻧﺎﺑﻊ ﻣن ﻋدم ﻣﻌرﻓﺔ ﺣﻘوق‬
‫اﻻﺑﻧﺎء ‪,‬وان ھذه اﻟﺣﻘوق اﻧﻣﺎ‬
‫ﺗﺗﻌدى ﺣدود اﻟﻣطﻌم واﻟﻣﻠﺑس‬
‫وﻣﺎ اﻟﻰ ذﻟك ‪,‬اﻧك ﻟﺗﺟد اﻟﺷﺎب‬
‫واﻟﻣﻔﺗرض ان ﯾرﺑﻰ ﻋﻠﻰ‬
‫اﻻﺳﻼم ﯾﻌﯾش ﻓﻲ أﻋﻣﺎق اﻟﺟﮭل‬
‫واﻟﺣرﻣﺎن وﻣن اﺑﺳط اﻣور دﯾﻧﮫ‬
‫ودﻧﯾﺎه‪,‬وﻧﺗﻌذرﻋن ذﻟك اﺣﯾﺎﻧﺎ‬
‫ﺑﺎﺳﺑﺎب ﻟﯾس ﻟﮭﺎ ﻣن اﺻل ﻓﻲ‬
‫دﯾﻧﻧﺎ او ﺣﺗﻰ ﻓﻲ ﻋﺻر اﻟﺣداﺛﺔ‬
‫اﻟﺗﻲ ﻧرﺟوا ﻣن اﻣر دﻧﯾﺎﻧﺎ ‪.‬‬
‫اﻧﻧﺎ ﻗﻠﯾﻼ ﻣﺎ ﻧﻘف ﻋﻧد رﻏﺑﺎت‬
‫اﻻﺑﻧﺎء وﻧﺣﺎول ان ﻧﻔﮭم ﻣن‬
‫ﺧﻼﻟﮭﺎ ﺗِﻠﻛ ُم اﻟﺳﺧﺻﯾﺔ اﻟدﻓﯾﻧﺔ ﻓﻲ‬
‫اﻋﻣﺎق اﻟطﻔوﻟﺔ وﺑﯾن ﻧظرات‬
‫اﻟﯾوﻣﯾﺔ ﺑل روﺗﯾن ﻋﺎﻟﻣﮫ اﻵﺧر‪،‬وإن‬
‫اﻟﺑراءة ‪,‬ﺑل ﻗﻠﯾﻼ ﻣﺎ ﻧﻠﺗﻔت اﻟﻰ‬
‫ﺣدود اﻟﻌطﺎء واﻻﻧﺗﻣﺎء ﻟﮭذا اﻟدﯾن‬
‫ﻋﻧدھم ‪،‬وﻧﻘطف اﻻﺑﺗﺳﺎمة ﻣن‬
‫‪-4‬اﻟﻣﺳﺟد‪ :‬وھو ﻣن ﻋواﻣل اﻟﺗﺄﺛﯾر‬
‫ﻗ َ ﺑ ْل ان ﺗﻼﻣس ﺷﻔﺎھﮭم ﺑﺳﻠطﺎن‬
‫اﻟﺧوف أو اﻟﻘﮭر‪ .‬وﻧﻧﺳﻰ إﻧﻣﺎ ﻓﻲ‬

‫ﺗﻣﺷﻲ ﻋﻠﻰ اﻷرض‪ ،‬إذا ھﺑت‬
‫اﻟرﯾﺢ ُ ﻋﻠﻰ أﺣدھم اﻣﺗﻧﻌت ﻋﯾﻧﻲ‬
‫ﻋن اﻟﻧوم‪،‬‬
‫ﻓﺎﻷوﻻد ﺛﻣرة ﺟﮭد اﻵﺑﺎء ﻓﻲ‬
‫اﻟﺗرﺑﯾﺔ‪ ،‬واﻧﻌﻛﺎس ﻟﺣﯾﺎة اﻟواﻟدﯾن‪،‬‬
‫ﻓﺎﻷﺑوان ﻋﻠﯾﮭﻣﺎ ﻣﺳﺋوﻟﯾﺔ ﻛﺑﯾرة‪،‬‬
‫وواﺟﺑﺎت ﻋظﯾﻣﺔ ﻧﺣو أوﻻدھﻣﺎ‪.‬‬
‫وﺳﻧﺣﺎول أن ﻧﺗﻌرف ﻋﻠﻰ ﺑﻌض‬
‫ھذه اﻟواﺟﺑﺎت اﻟﺗﻲ أﻟزم ﺑﮭﺎ‬

‫ﻋﻠﯾﮫ‪ ،‬وﯾﻛون ﺟزء ًا ﻣن ﺳﻠوﻛﮫ‬
‫وأﺧﻼﻗﮫ واذا ﻣﺎ ﺳﺄﻟت اﻻﺑوﯾن‬
‫اذا ﻣﺎ أ َ ﻣ ْ ﻌ َﻧﺎ اﻟﻧظر اﻟﻰ‬
‫أ َ ﺗ َﻌر ِ ف اﺳم اﻟﻣدرس ﻻوﻻدك؟‬

‫ﻛﺎن اﻟﺑﯾت ﻓﻲ ﺣﺎﻟﺔ ﻣن‬
‫اﻟﺿﯾﺎع واﻟﺗﺳﯾب‪ ،‬اﻧﻌﻛﺳت‬
‫وﯾﺻﺑﺢ ﻣﺎ ﯾﺷﺎھده ﺟزء ًا ﻣن ﺣﯾﺎﺗﮫ‬
‫ھذه اﻟﺻورة ﻋﻠﻰ اﻷوﻻد‪،‬‬

‫اﻷﻋراف واﻟﻘوﻣﯾﺎت ‪ ،‬ﻓﺈذا ﻣﺎ ﺑﻠﻎ‬ ‫ﻋﻠﯾﮫ وﺳﻠم‪" :‬ﻛل ﻣوﻟود ﯾُوﻟد‬
‫اﻟﺷﺎب او اﻟﻔﺗﺎة ﺳن اﻟﻣﻌرﻓﺔ‬ ‫ﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﻔطرة‪ ،‬ﻓﺄﺑواه ﯾُﮭ َو ِ داﻧﮫ‬

 Children’s Ramadan
Program
Ramadan is the month of repen-
tance, acceptance, blessings and re-
membrance of Allah (SWT). Every
year, the Muslim community in the
Bronx is packed in the small space
of the Bronx Muslim Center to pray
taraweeh and listen to lectures dur-
ing the month of Ramadan. How-
ever, the Muslim community experi-
enced a rather different Ramadan
this year. The MAS youth got to-
gether and held a month long pro-
gram for children 4-12 years of age
in order to give them the same great
feeling that Ramadan brings, while
at the same time, the parents were
given the opportunity to pray and
listen to lectures in the serenity of
the air conditioned building on
White Plains road donated by some-
one from the community.
The program began with a
recitation from the book of Allah
and proceeded to the children pray-
ing Isha and taraweeh in a congrega-
tion. Mini lectures were then pre-
sented to the children that were both
interesting for their ages and very
beneficial. For the first time, chil-
dren were able to understand what
Ramadan is and benefitted from a

whole month of prayer and informa-
tional lectures they could understand
and participate in. Not only was the
program filled with much Islamic
education but it was also fun filled
for the young souls. The children
ages 8-12 years were able to write
poems and stories, make plays and

After 30
days of a
successful
program, the youth coordinators
threw an Eid party for the children
who attended regularly. There were
lots of presents, food and games.
Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) once
said, “A smile on the face of your
brother is sadaqa (charity)” and see-
ing the smiles on the children’s faces
was the best reward anyone can re-
ceive. InshaAllah this program will
be the first of many programs to
come.

States. they hope that promoting cul-
tural sensitivity among professionals
who work with students, devise school
curricula, and setting instructional prac-
tices will have a positive effect on over-
all school environment, including stu-
dents’ relationships with peers.
The purpose of the project is to
help fill in the existing gap of knowl-
edge and understanding what Arab
Muslim youth face. A committed re-
search team from the Yale Child Study
Center, funded by Russell Sage and
Smart Family Foundations, is spear-

lated for use by school-based services
and educational practices. They sur-
veyed some 18 students from each site
of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and
metro NY. They worked in schools,
mosques, community centers, and even
restaurants. During the social events,
one boy and his parent, and one girl and
her parent were given surveys to
fill. As MAS youth, we took part in
this project by bringing in some of the
children and parents from the Muslim
community to take the surveys. There
were more than 24 students with their
parents that came to the Masjid on Sun-
day, Sept. 19th, 2010 and took the sur-
vey.

Monday, the 27th of December,
marked the second anniversary of the
Israeli war of 2009, in which in less
than a month, Israel aka the criminal
machine, murdered more than 1,400
and wounded over 5,300 Palestinians
residing in Gaza.
Nonetheless, the silence of the world
has killed many more. On May 31,
2010, Israel Commandos stormed 6
Freedom Flotilla ships, killing 10 hu-
manitarian activists, carrying aid to
those in Gaza, along with wounding
many more. Despite the fact that United
Nation officials vowed to ‘ease’ the
blockade after this massacre, Palestini-
ans still struggle today as the blockade
has not nearly been eased. The siege in
fact, has tightened, leaving tens of
thousands of people homeless, 90 per-
cent of drinking water contaminated
and a significant amount of food short-
age. The children of Gaza cry for milk
while our brothers and sisters simply
long for shelter! If we don’t help wipe
those tears, then who will? Isn’t it time
for us to stand with our brothers and
sisters in Palestine? Isn’t it time for us
to say something? Isn’t it time to de-
fend Masjid al Aqsa? If the time’s not
now, then when is it?
Until this day, Gaza still remains
under fire. The call now is for the free

world to break the siege and to demand
justice and freedom for the residents of
Gaza. Yes, We can help by simple
ways such as by making dua’, creating
awareness for this issue amongst our
neighbors and our friends, donating to
the cause through organizations such as
Islamic Relief and even calling or
emailing officials to insist on them
pressuring Israel to stop the blockade
on Gaza. We’ve heard and have even
seen the kids of Gaza chanting, “give
us childhood”. However, what are we
actually going to do? Are we just going
to listen and ignore them like the years
before or are we going to support them
and stand up for their rights and free-

Volunteer– It’s Good For
You And Potentially For
The Community, Too!

Bronx with several different organi-
zations, such as the Vacca Volunteer
Corps. Volunteering with our green
shirts, we spread the message of
helping the creation, in obedience to
our Creator; the lived message of
Islam that the Prophet peace be upon
him taught us more than 1400 years
ago. Vacca Volunteer Corps is an
organization lead by James Vacca, a
member of the New York City
Council, who happens to represent
the Bronx Muslim Center commu-
nity through the Bronx 13 Council

District. Furthermore, Vacca has
been a life-long resident in the
Bronx and an active member of the
community ever since his childhood.
We as MAS Youth Bronx, joined
Vacca and his crew, on Saturday,
July 31 2010 to conduct a cleanup

of Pelham Parkway South, a field
littered with weeds and debris. We
pulled out weeds, swept the side-
walks, and picked up trash between
White Plains Road and Williams-
bridge Road, restoring the beauty of
this long stretch of parkland. How-
ever, we did not stop there, as we
volunteered once more to repaint a
U.S. flag mural in Morris Park on
Saturday, August 28 , 2010. With

the help of Senator Jeff Klein’s graf-
fiti-removal, our youth, along with
fellow volunteers, repainted a large
American flag mural that has been
marred by graffiti vandals. Volun-
teers removed graffiti from the four
walls of Parkchester Rifle & Re-
volver along with re-painting a lar-
ger version of the Stars & Stripes,
now visible from Sackett Avenue.
Furthermore, we volunteered
with MillionTreesNYC, an organiza-
tion in which one of its initiatives is
a citywide, public-private program
with an am-
bitious goal:
to plant and
care for one
million trees
across the
City's five
boroughs over the next decade. By
planting one million trees, New
York City can increase its urban
forest. The City of New York will
plant 60% of trees in parks along
with other public spaces, while the
other 40% will come through private
and community organizations along
with homeowners. On Saturday,
October 23 , 2010, we helped to

plant thousands of trees in Pelham
Bay Park near Turtle Cove; we gath-
ered with a big group consisting of
about 20 young brothers and sisters
from the Bronx Muslim Center hav-
ing the only representation of Islam.
These tree planting events will be
conducted twice a year within the
fall and spring seasons, and are al-
ready marked in the MAS Youth
Bronx community service calendar.
Inshallah we will reach the one mil-
lion trees goal by 2020!

A: Before taking my shahada, I
didn't really have a religion. I just
always knew there was GOD. I

After taking my shahada right away
I became happy. I knew that every-
thing I had ever done would be
erased and I would have a second
chance in life. Most of all, I would
be forgiven for any past sins. I
mean who wouldn't want that. I
knew that in my heart, it wasn't
going to be easy, changing my life-
style over night, but I had Allah
(God) in my life and I knew I
wouldn't fail. Coming back to Islam
was the best thing I've ever done. I
was at peace with myself. Why do I
say coming back? Well that's be-
cause Allah made us all Muslims;
the only difference is that growing
up our parents might raise us as
Christians, Jews, Catholic, etc. But
we are all Muslims. My life has
changed for the better, ever since
Islam. I know who I am as a per
son. Before Islam I was empty and
had no reason to live but since I
accepted Islam, words can't explain
the joy I have in my heart and if I
do try to explain, this interview will
take hours.

because I was a Muslim and the

appointment, school, or at the store
but most of the time, I start speak-
ing Spanish and they could do noth-
ing but feel a bit more comfortable.
Sometimes I even explain to them
that there's Muslims all over the
world and that they’re not only
from Afghanistan, Yemen, or Paki-
stan but that Muslims come in
black, white, purple, Orange; all
colors and races. I can say most
times that it doesn't bother me that
people stare at me because I am
completely comfortable with who I
am and I know that no one can truly
guide me but Allah. Sometimes I
want people to look or ask because
it gives me the opportunity to ex-
plain to them the true meaning of
Islam and the beauty of this way of
life that so many people misinter-
preted.
Q: Describe how Islam has
changed you?
A: Well for one, Islam is the best
thing that can happen to anyone
there's no doubt about it. One thing
Islam has done for me is that it has
changed my perspective of life. I
notice that life has so much more

meaning than just going out, having a
party and getting wasted. Hey, I
mean there's nothing wrong with
having fun in Islam but the fun is
pure fun and happy fun. There's no
worries that you might not make it
home alive, because you will always
have your brother or sister there to
make sure you’re safe. I'm more re-
sponsible. I'm more reliable. My atti-
tude doesn't stink like it did before
and trust me I was the kind of girl
that would want to pick a fight just
because I felt I was looked at the
wrong way. I love and care for my
family more than ever. I'm not so
selfish. I love and worry about every-
one’s feelings besides mines. Islam
has made me such a better person to

I carry myself. Everything I do now
is to please Allah and not the world.
Islam just makes me wanna be all I
can be. I have learned so much in the
last couple of months almost a year
since I reconverted and my journey
doesn't stop here. Islam has changed
me so much but Alhamdulillah it has
been all for the better. I'm a better
person than I ever was before. Hey I
didn't say I'm perfect but I wanna do
good in this life and when I fall ill get
back up because I know I have Allah
by my side and that's all I need to
k e e p m e g o i n g . .
Q: What is your last word of ad-
vice to both Muslims and non-
Muslims in the community alike?
A: My last words are going to be
this. Allah created us all as one. No

one of you is better than me neither
am I better than you but together we
can make the world a better place.
The first thing we must do is stop
judging everyone because of one
person’s mistakes. Muslim or non-
Muslim if we could all come together
than we can all make a difference.
The main thing for us as an Ummah
is to give the Da'wah not only to
Muslims but non-Muslims so they
too can understand our point of view
and understand what Islam really is.
Remember it only takes one step and
Allah will come running to you. If
you find yourself lost ask the one
who created you who created the
heavens and earth to guide you and I
promise you that you'll find the way.
If it happens to me it can happen to
you. Look within yourself and ask
yourself is Islam really all about war
and terrorism? 1.5 billion people in
the world are Muslims and the num-
bers are growing every day. At the
rate that Islam is spreading demogra-
phers predict by the year 2025 one
out of four people will be muslims.
So is Islam really that bad I doubt
not. Brothers and sisters let's do our
job as Muslims and spread the word
of Islam and let's Make sure we in-
form all those who have been misin-
formed let's spread our love and
peace with others and let's bring back
the message of our holy prophet Mu-
hammad (sws-peace be upon him.)
 MAS Youth at Bronx Muslim Center

MAS Youth at BMC (Bronx Muslim Center) is the local group of

the youth department of MAS. Our Mission is “to move young people to
strive for God-Consciousness and social justice and to convey Islam with
utmost clarity.” And our vision is “MAS Youth as a division of MAS, giving
roots, nurturing, and establishing organized and efficient, movement oriented
Islamic work amongst all segments of youth based on the comprehensive
understanding of Islam.”

As a MAS Youth group at the BMC carrying this mission and vi-
sion, our goals are to reach to young American Muslims and provide them
with an Islamic Environment that helps them keep and strengthen their Is-
lamic Identity. Working together, as an organized group, we strive at im-
proving our knowledge of Islam and building a strong bond of brotherhood/
sisterhood, and ultimately build strong, skilled, and educated Young Muslim
men and women. Furthermore, as a strong group we unite to reach out to the
larger American society, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, with the intention of
“serving the creator by serving his creation” through our effort at community
service and Dawah Projects inside and outside the Masjid.

We appreciate everyone that has taken the time to read this newslet-
