Syllabus for PSY 101: Applications of Psychology

Course Description (3 credit hours)


Discussion of current research in the field of psychology and how that can be applied in various clinical and
experimental settings. Emphasis on using critical thinking skills. Prerequisite: PSY 100.

Course Requirements

Discussion Boards: (25 points each X 7= 375 pts) Students are assigned a topic and will post their responses to
the forum for all students to see and comment on.

Reading reflections: (25 points each X 15= 175 pts) Students are assigned chapters to read per week and submit
reflections as assigned by the instructor.
Assignments: (50 points each X 9=450 pts) Assignments are posted in various formats as indicated by the
instructor.

Late work may be accepted with communication between the student and professor with a 10 point
deduction per day.

Evaluation/Grading Scale

The Instructor will create the assignments and post in Moodle. Grades will be based on the points above (1000 points
total) set up in the Moodle gradebook. Letter grades will be assigned based on the following scale:

Class attendance is prerequisite for achieving the course objectives and required by university policy as stated in the
catalog, which can be viewed on the UMO web page, under “Academics”: www.umo.edu .
The Professor is required to record your attendance in Moodle each week. Please understand that this may affect your
financial aid or participation in sports as well. Attendance will be recorded after the completion of each weekly exam.
The last day to officially drop the class is the 1/17/20. You will need to officially complete that process or you will receive
an F as a grade if you do not complete the course.
