MEMORANDUM

FOR : Executive Director, NDRRMC and Administrator, OCD

FROM : Chairperson, RDRRMC and Regional Director, OCD

SUBJECT : Regional Task Force for Coronavirus Disease-2019

(COVID-19) Situational Report No. 16

DATE : March 31, 2020 as of 5:00 PM

Sources:RDRRMC Response Clusters and Local Government Units

I. SITUATION OVERVIEW

The novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is a new strain of coronavirus that has not been
previously identified in humans. The 2019-nCoV has caused severe pneumonia in several
cases in China and has been exported to a range of countries and cities.

On 31 December 2019, a clustering of pneumonia cases of unknown etiology was reported

in Wuhan, China. The outbreak was later determined to be caused by a novel coronavirus
(2019-nCoV), a new coronavirus strain that has not been previously identified in humans.

Common signs of coronavirus infection include flu-like and respiratory symptoms, fever,
cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties. In severe cases, it can cause
pneumonia, acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death. Source: DOH

On 11 February 2020, the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV)

announced “severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)” as the name
of the new virus. This name was chosen because the virus is genetically related to the
coronavirus responsible for the SARS outbreak of 2003. While related, the two viruses are
different. Hence, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced “COVID-19” as the name
of this new disease following guidelines previously developed with the World Organisation
for Animal Health (OIE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
(FAO). Source: WHO

As of reporting time, Caraga Region has not yet recorded any CoViD-19 cases based on
official report released by DOH-CHD Caraga.

Caraga Region through its tri-council (RDC, RPOC and RDRRMC) has created a Regional
Task Force (RTF) for CoViD-19 called as “One Caraga Shield” to monitor and assess the
situation of the region and to issue relevant guidelines as the situation warrants.
