II. RATIONALE

Mathematics in the secondary level has its new focus in the basic
education curriculum. It makes use of integration to ensure that there is balance
between theory and practice. Filipino learners should develop an ability to think
conceptually and abstractly, to discern logical and numerical patterns and
relationships, to handle chains of reasoning and to solve real life problems.

To realize the goals of Mathematics in the Department of Education,

students’ exposure to various mathematical related activities is necessary. This
will help them learning while appreciating the importance of Math as they apply
its concepts to real world situations.

Relative to this thrust, the school has laid out plans for the conduct of
Mathematics Fun Week in order to assess the functional literacy of the learners
as they will be exposed to practical situations which require application of
mathematical concepts. Mathematics Fun Week is an annual competition in
school wherein various Math-related activities are set and undertaken within the
specified week. The activities to be contested in the said event are Math Trail,
Hands On, Math Quiz, Math Jingle, Math Poem Writing, Math Dance, Math
Equations Display, and the Search for Mr. & Ms. Math Wizard.
Conducting Mathematics Fun Week is indeed a great way to expedite the
attainment of functional literacy and the development of the twin goals of the K to
12 Mathematics Framework - the creative thinking and problem-solving skills.

III. OBJECTIVES

1. To assess functional literacy of the learners in mathematics in the form

of a competition;
2. To expose students to practical applications in mathematics;
3. To scout learners with potentials in mathematics who will represent the
school in various events in higher level of competitions; and
4. To increase students’ appreciation about mathematics that it is essential
in daily life and it is fun to learn

IV. METHODOLOGY

1. Pre-planning among Math Club Officers;

2. Conference with the facilitators and other persons involved for
discussion of guidelines and mechanics of the different activities and the
committees needed;
3. Finalization and submission of the Activity Design for approval from the
