A Simple Report on Virtual Trading

First of all thanks to our honorable teacher Hasan A. Mamun for giving us such project. We

enjoyed playing and at the same time learned as well. The name of our group is United Finance

and investment Limited. We finished playing the game at the position of 5th in 6 groups. It’s

not a good position to be honest but it was the first time we traded shares and made mistakes. We

made money, we made mistakes, we lost money through the whole time but as a beginner we

tried to do well. The time period was 5 days and we tried to make the most out of it. All the

trading we made from which shares we made money and on which shares we lost money and

what we could have done to avoid the loss is explained in this report.

As our teacher taught us in the class to make profit, buy the shares which price is below the

average rate. We followed the principle that HMU sir taught us, but unfortunately the time

period was too short and we didn’t know the share’s price would rise in that short time period or

not, but we took the risk and played like the way that ‘sir’ told us. We bought 24 companies

share at different amount in different time period. This are the companies symbols that we

purchased in the virtual share market, (Google, AZO, AAPL, BABA, BTI, BLUE, COO,

EBAY, FB, GM, GPRO, HPQ, HRB, KR, LULU, MCD, MSFT, NFLX, PM, SHLD, T,

TWTR, VZ, XRT). We did no make profit from all of the shares that we bought but we did

make some profit from some of the shares that we bought. At the very beginning of our trading,

we made a profit of $321 by trading only 100 shares of Google. Our total profit after selling

Google was $861. On 11th Dec. we saw that Bluebird Bio Inc. is in batter position, the price was
starting to grow. On 12th we made a $600 profit from this company. Well here is a chart from

which shares we made money:

We made money when the price of shares rose up; we also lost money when the market price of

the shares fell below the price when we bought them. We didn’t sell our shares; we waited for

our shares price to rise up. Some of the shares price didn’t rise up in the time period we got. That

is why we faced lose in the end of the 5 days period. We can’t actually say that we lost money,

because we didn’t sell all our shares. In the game, on the portfolio list we still have 8 companies’

shares to be sold. According to the market condition we can forecast that there is a high

possibility to increase the price of those shares. We have still 9,419 shares in our holdings.

Which market value is $980,090.3/=.The market Value is 22,904.07 less than our purchase price.

Here is a chart of how much we have in our account:

Company Total Market Value No. of share Purchase Total Purchase Value Price Decrease

BTI 21332 200 23,144.0 ($1,812.00)

COO 158250 1000 163,080.0 ($4,830.00)

EBAY 39053 700 40,019.0 ($966.00)

GM 15785 500 16,630.0 ($845.00)

GPRO 42364 700 47,439.0 ($5,075.00)

MCD 63434 700 63,987.0 ($553.00)

NFLX 167375 500 173,485.0 ($6,110.00)

XRT 472381.32 5119 475,094.4 ($2,713.07)

Our aim was to buy those shares which price was below the market rate, we took the risk and

made the mistake there a bit, because the time period was so small and we tried to invest on

those shares which would have made money in the long run but didn’t work out for us because of

the time slot we got. Now we get the idea what we could have done in the first hand, we should

have bought the shares of those companies whose market price is already on the rise. We

actually did that on the 3rd day, when we were falling behind from the other groups. We bought

the shares of those companies whose market price was rising and would have risen more than we

bought them at the price. Some of the price of some company’s shares didn’t match our expected

value we wanted, but we waited for them to be risen but were too late again because of the time

slot. We can’t actually blame the short time period, we could have done better, and it was us who

took much time to understand. The entire members of this group enjoyed playing this game.

Everyone was very participative and they took the responsibility to do well in this project.
In the end we can say that it was fun doing the trading and making this report. None of the group

members had any idea about the about share market. Now we know how the real market is and

how the share holders feel every day while trading the shares. We faced the same kind of ups and

downs while playing on the virtual market.
