Clinic 3

Term one - Observations of student Practitioners in Clinic 5

Tuesdays, shift one: 1500 – 1700 & shift two: 1700 – 1900

 Punctuality
It is important that you arrive 15 minutes before the shift starts and
present yourself to the clinic supervisor, Adrianne.
Leave your personal belongings in the inner room and out of the way.

 Appearance
Please be neatly dressed and it is preferable you wear the recommended
clinic uniform made up of black/dark trousers or skirt and a white shirt,
with appropriate footwear.

 Attitude & Conduct

You are present to observe and learn from the experience of watching
senior students in a clinic situation. Be aware that they may be nervous
and that the client may be uncomfortable at having another person
present as well. Your non-verbal communication should be polite and
supportive.
Apart from greeting both the student practitioner and the client and
thanking them at the end for giving you the opportunity to be there, be
unobtrusive and make sure you have your note pad and a pen handy to
take notes.

 Absenteeism
You must be present at every shift that you have been rostered on for.
If you are unable to make a shift you need to inform me before the shift
starts. If you fail to observe shifts due to absenteeism without valid
reasons you might not be judged competent to be a student practitioner
in term two.

 Observer’s tasks
Observe student practitioner taking client case history and making
recommendations.
Observe case review between student practitioner and Clinic supervisor.
Take notes throughout in order to fill out Observation task log.

 At the end of the shift only leave after getting the clinic supervisors
permission to do so.

 On the next page you will find a sample OBSERVATION TASK LOG
Ensure that it is filled in with all the relevant information and that they are
thoroughly and properly written up. Do not include the clients name.
Based on the log you should be able to discuss the case if needed in clinic 3
classes on Wednesdays.

BE PROFESSIONAL & MAINTAIN CONFIDENTIALITY AT ALL TIMES
