Brandi/Courtney – have you all gotten this question or heard anything in relation to
this story? Also including our OIIR rep Andy Parks in case he knows or has heard.
Here’s the main point of the article:
Mikrin, 64, also chief designer, shared a three-hour flight beforehand with the
head of Russia's State Corporation for Space Activities (Roscosmos), who
later broke social distancing by standing too close to the astronauts.
Thanks,
Stephanie

Per the media reports this morning, General Designer of RSC-Energia Yevgeny Mikrin got infected
with corona virus and is isolated at home. MIkrin has no clinical symptoms of being sick. Mikrin was
tested twice and both tests were COVID positive, said the source. Currently, he is one of 30 people
officially claimed infected inside Roscosmos. The media source also reported that that there are no
other infected people among the management of RSC-Energia and Roscosmos for today. RSC-
Energia said: “We are not commenting on personal data and medical records.” Since March, RSC-
Energia has been practicing special regime of work: most employees are at home, part of employees
continue to work according to a special schedule. Several times per day the work places are
disinfected.

"Yevgeny Anatolyevich Mikrin will be buried at the Federal Military Memorial Cemetery in the city of
Mytishchy, Moscow region, on May 8, 2020. The funeral rites will take place at 11:00 a.m. The number of
people attending the ceremony will be limited, due to the coronavirus pandemic," Energia said.
"A memorial event for Yevgeny Anatolyevich Mikrin will be organized after quarantine has been lifted,"
Energia said.
According to earlier reports, Mikrin was diagnosed with coronavirus after visiting Baikonur.
"The best doctors fought for his life for several weeks, all possible methods were used, but unfortunately,
the disease turned out to be stronger," Roscosmos head Dmitry Rogozin said on May 5.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his condolences that Academician Mikrin made an invaluable
contribution to the development of Russian technological thought and the implementation of the national
space program.
Mikrin was a scientist, a designer and organizer who made a considerable contribution to the development
of command systems for transport manned and cargo spacecraft, multi-modular spacecraft, and various-
purpose automatic spacecraft.
In the Russian aerospace industry, Mikrin was in charge of all current and prospective manned programs.
Energia is Russia's only manufacturer of manned spacecraft. The corporation is currently manufacturing
Soyuz MS spacecraft and Progress MS cargo spacecraft and is working on creating the Russian prospective
reusable spacecraft Oryol under the experimental design project Federatsiya.

I spoke with Strelnikov to follow up on Mikrin testing positive. He said he couldn’t get a hold of
Evgeny, but there is a TsENKII document from Space Center Yushnii (Baikonur) that says Mikrin
tested positive. Strelnikov didn’t know the date he did or anything about a contact trace, though he
did say that people in close contact with Mikrin were tested and mentioned Krikalev. He also said
the members of the State Commission were tested yesterday and he was tested today because he’s
going to Baikonur on Friday.
Please let me know if you’d like me to take any further action on this.

We ve read the news articles, but have not been contacted by any of our Russian colleagues to confirm the story The news articles say he was on the plane with Rogozin down to Baikonur
It is also reported that he tested negative for coronavirus before going to Baiknour, so if it s true, it s unknown when he became infected
There is another article that reports 30 people from Roscosmos (we assume this to mean all Russian space entities, including Energia, TsENKII, etc ) have tested positive and 2 people have
died (in their 60s) Again, no word from our Russian colleagues to confirm this
I spoke with Strelnikov this morning and he could not confirm if Mikrin tested positive, but he said he was in quarantine and not in a hospital I responded that everyone who leaves the
country and returns must be in quarantine, so that isn t a conclusive statement whether he tested positive I also asked if he did test positive, when, and if Strelnikov could confirm he tested
negative prior to going to Baikonur Strelnikov said he must have tested negative prior to going since he was allowed in (we did have to show our negative test results to be let into Baikonur,
but I didn t know if they were making exceptions for senior managers) I also asked if anyone else tested positive who was in Baikonur (we heard a rumor that Vinogradov also tested
positive), he said he ll look into it Finally I asked about the article saying 30 people from Roscosmos tested positive and two died Strelnikov explained that Roscosmos has many entities
under it and that no one at the Barishkovskaya location tested positive or died Strelnikov said he would have answers by Wednesday
Let s see what we get on Wednesday and then we can formulate a plan whether to follow up with a formal letter As a recap, we had the head of TsENKII send me a letter not allowing our
people into TsUP and the head of the Roscosmos international department sent a letter to the head of OIIR about the CMC traveler Later, I spoke with both TsENKII and Energia who assured
me they would contact me if any of their employees contracted the virus Clearly I did not expect them to follow through on this and in the case of Energia, they did not
