Preface
The primary objective of the third edition of the book entitled "Mechanics of Solids - is to
provide adequate breadth and depth for the core concepts of the subject.

IVenugopal sharma want to confess that, the Reader will become more aware and
confident about all the basic concepts after reading this book.

The emphasis throughout is on the illustration of techniques through numerous worked-

out numerical examples along with multiple-choice questions (GATE & IES) and important
formulae at the end of each chapter. The book is written in a simple and easy-to-follow language,
so that even an average student can grasp the subject by self-study.
