Hebrews 13:5-6

Fear, when not controlled, gives evidence that a person does not believe that God is telling the
truth and that He cannot be trusted to have one's best interests at heart. This rejects Jeremiah
29:11: "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the L ORD, thoughts of peace and
not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." To leave no doubt, God reassures us that He wants
the best for us, peace and a future with Him forever.

Nehemiah labels fear as sin. Romans 14:23 says the same of unbelief: "But he who doubts is
condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin."
A lack of faith is also sin.

Fear, then, is the result of a lack of faith, not believing in God's power and especially His love
and willingness to act on our behalf. The fearful are that way because they lack
faith. Christ reveals this connection in Mark 4:40: "But He said to them, 'Why are you so fearful?
How is it that you have no faith?'"

When Christ saw fear, His immediate response was to question that person's faith. Fear is a very
human reaction. As Christ indicates, how we respond depends on our degree of faith. When faith
is weak or non-existent, fear becomes the controlling factor rather than faith. We begin to live by
sight and not by faith (II Corinthians 5:7), and without faith, we cannot be saved: "And to whom
did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? So we see that
they could not enter in because of unbelief" (Hebrews 3:18-19).

There are many different sources of insecurity, but among them is the lack of
trust and confidence in God. Use these Bible verses to assure you that God
has given us purpose for our lives, and to rid of all doubt we have in His plan
for us, for doubt is said to be the work of Satan.

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right,

whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or

praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard

from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with

thanksgiving, present your requests to God.


Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything,
but in everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known to
God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all
understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds
in Christ Jesus.”
Does your insecurity come from financial concerns? Is it a chronic
health condition that is causing you concern about the future? God
says do not be anxious about any of it because for one thing, worry
doesn’t do anything to solve the problem, and it doesn’t allow us to
place this burden in the hands of God when we choose to carry it
around ourselves. When you can let it go and trust God, it’s a lot easier
to have peace of mind and this peace can guard your hearts and
minds, day and night.

Conclusion
If you or know someone you know is feeling insecure, ask them or
yourself this question: The Bible says nothing can separate us from the
love of God (Rom 8:35) so do you trust that truth more or your
feelings more? The obvious answer is the Bible because human
feelings are one of the shallowest, most undependable parts of the
human mind. They are not very reliable or trustworthy compared to
objective truths. A few centuries ago, most people believed the earth
was flat but their feelings never altered the fact that it wasn’t. The
point is, don’t believe or trust your feelings over what God’s Word
says, like where Paul wrote, “I am sure that neither death nor life, nor
angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,
nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to
separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom 8:38-
39).

I would define “bad jealousy” as jealousy that is rooted in fear and insecurity
and lack of trust in God’s promises. In other words, bad jealousy has an
inappropriate need for too much attention from the beloved because of an
insecurity and fear and unwillingness to trust God to take care of the beloved
and provide for our needs.

Good jealousy is rooted in a peaceful confidence in God for your own identity
and security so that you have a wonderful, free, loving disposition to allow
your beloved to have appropriate relationships besides the one he or she has
with you, and to have appropriate emotions toward family and friends that
don’t at all compromise his or her affections for you.

Good jealousy can discern the difference between what affections belong to
you and which don’t, because good jealousy is shaped by genuine love and
genuine trust in Christ. That’s the aim, Charles. You asked, “How can you
work against it?” Those two things: grow in trust and grow in love.
