 Today we’ll present you something that will change your views about smartphones.

Here are the


contents of our presentation. Before moving on we need to understand what smartphones
exactly are:
smartphone is a contraction of the word “smart” and ‘telephone’.
Now let’s talk about the history of smartphones.
The very first smartphone was made by IBM in late 1992 in collaboration with BellSouth. It was
codenamed “Anglar” and was unveiled at the fall COMDEX convention in Las Vegas but was
available to consumers in August 1994. It was a huge step forward in telecommunication
technology and changed the industry for better. It’s features included an address book,
calendar, appointment scheduler, calculator, world time clock, and notepad, as well as other
visionary mobile applications such as maps, stock reports and news.
Now lets talk about the :

 Cellphone  Smartphone

 •A smartphone has more advanced

 The most important part of any smartphone is its Operating System. Without it, no smartphone
would work. Different brands use different types of operating systems on their smartphone

Some operating systems are popular than the other just like how windows dominate in personal
computers over Linux and Mac OS. Here is a pi-chart that better represents this data:

By looking at this pi chart we come to know that Android is the most popular operating sstem
followed by iOS for iphones. Aside from software, the hardware components of the smartphone
include:


 Now we move towards the features of a smartphone. A modern day smartphone offers some
very advanced features which include:

 Connectivity Utilities – we can use a smartphone to call and text anyone and we can also use
front camera of the smartphone to video call and chat with anyone. Facetime, skype and viber,
whattsapp can be used for this purpose.

 Internet Access internet can be accessed pretty easily with the help of web browsers and
anything can be searched online.

 HD Camera – a good smartphone offers a high resolution camera by using which we can capture
photos and shoot videos in good quality.

 Large Storage – smartphones come in large storage options. By storage we mean the capacity of
the smartphone to store data. It is also known as ROM.

 Multimedia Device – a smartphone is a complete multimedia device it’s touch screen panel can
be used to watch videos, play games or listen go music

 Social Apps- a smartphone offers different social media apps like twitter facebook, Instagram
etc which keeps us connected to our friends and family member.

Smartphones can be very useful for students if they use it right.

 Note Taking Apps notes can be taken with the help of note taking apps and stylus. Several apps
are available on play store for this purpose

 Online Dictionaries online as well as offline dictionaries are available in smartphones in the form
of apps which can be downloaded from play store. Oxford English dictionary and Mariam
Webster’s dictionary are very famous.

 Language Translation Apps – Language translation apps are also available for users so they can
benefit from it. A very famous language translator is Google translator. The Google Translate
app for Android and iOS supports more than 100 languages and can translate 37
languages.

 Online Lecture Apps – There are online learning apps like Khan Academy and Pak Prep which
can be used to learn subjects online and also be used to prepare for ECAT, MDCAT and SAT also

 Advanced Scientific calculators – If you have a smartphone, you don’t even have to buy a
calculator as smartphones provide scientific calculator apps which can solve complex problems
in seconds and give you accurate answers.

 Electronic-Book Readers – Amazon Kindle book store and Apple iBooks can be used to read
books online. Books by famous authors can be purchased or rented and downloaded to read
whenever you want.
 A report suggests that About 80% of people in the World use smartphone above all other
technologies.

 In the third quarter of 2012, one billion smartphones were in use worldwide.

 Global smartphone sales surpassed the sales figures for feature phones in early 2013.

 They have become a part of our lives.

We conducted a survey among several students of our campus, office workers, teenagers and
common men. Here are some interesting results deduced:

14) The gadget which is used the most is Smartphone which is not a surprise considering its
importance

15) A thing which is of great concern is that most students and common men spend most of
their time on smartphones. They spend between 4-8 hours daily on their smartphones.

16) Our survey showed that smartphones are predominantly used for communication 25% of
students use this just for time pass which is of great concern.

17) 57% of people agreed that the appropriate age to use the smartphones should be above 18
years.

18) What’s interesting is that about 50% of people think that smartphones will replace laptops in
future. This is because of their extremely compact size and improved functionaluity.

 19) Smartphones have become an integral part of our life.

 Our productivity is directly or indirectly dependent on them.

20) It is mind boggling to know that 66% of people preferred to use smartphones instead of
laptops, tablets and personal computers. This is the proof that more people will be using
smartphones in the future.

21) The most beloved feature of smartphones is the availability of social media apps even
surpassing its usage as means of communication.

22) 69% of people check their phone after waking up

23) We got mixed reviews about this particular question but majority of people still feel
uncomfortable without their phones

 24) 70% of people agreed that we are becoming a smartphone driven nation.
As smartphones are major source of our economy as well. (This includes freelancing and online
jobs and marketing). To elaborate this, we reached out to a research assistant MR. Rizwan

Disadvantages
Above analysis emphasizes:

 Smartphone Addiction

 Time Wastage

 Social Anxiety

 Cyber Security

 Distraction from studies and goals

Conclusion
 Smartphone’s advantages outweigh its disadvantages. As it Is said that “Nothing is good or bad
but thinking makes it so”

 Smartphones truly are becoming more popular.

 Their impact is increasing in online freelancing and marketing.

 If used right, smartphones can do wonders for us.
