NCR Information

Something to note is that while some of the stuff posted have multiple citations or references, I am
simply too lazy to include all of them so I will usually post 1 that I think is the best.

Size
Population: 700,000+ (By 2281)

Sources:

 (Fallout New Vegas Game Guide):

By post-apocalyptic standards, the NCR is a paragon of economic success and good ethical
character: political enfranchisement, rule of law, a reasonable degree of physical security,
and a standard of living better than mere subsistence are daily realities for its 700,000+
citizens. Currently, the NCR in a state of transition, with rapid economic growth and a sea
change in political leadership endangering its grand humanitarian ideals. Nowhere is this
more evident than in the Mojave, where the occupation of Hoover Dam has improved
access to electricity and water, but at the cost of straining its budget and embroiling its
armed forces in a morally corrosive imperialist project.

Notes:

 From Fallout 2 in the NCR history holodisk, it says this: “Founded eighty years ago, the NCR
is now comprised of the states of Shady, Los Angeles, Maxson, Hub, and Dayglow.
Approximately 700,000 citizens are pleased to call NCR home.” However, Chris Avellone
says this in Fallout Bible #6 about that specific quote: “These population figures are
exaggerated, though the population of the NCR and all its states is pretty impressive. It has
been known to vary according to plot purposes.”

Will add stuff later

Industrial Capability
Gun Runners can produce weapons ranging from basic firearms to high end energy weapons to even
mini nukes and their launchers.

Citations:

 In-game vendors in Fallout 1 and NV for gun runners sell energy weapons
 (Vendortron)
“All Gun Runner merchandise is constructed on-site”
 The DLC for New Vegas, Gun Runners’ Arsenal adds in many new weapons and ammo types.
Based on the DLC description, these new weapons originated from the Gun Runners:
“The famous weapons manufacturer, Gun Runners, has opened up their exclusive cache of
armaments, including new weapons, weapon mod, ammo types and recipes. Their inventory
doesn’t come without a price, though. Trek far and wide throughout the Mojave Wasteland
in search of this elite class of weapons that range from outrageously potent to the bizarrely
impractical.”

Notes:

 Due to BOS raiding caravans Gun Runners that contain energy weapons, Gun Runners do
not deal with energy weapons. However, with Gun Runners’ Arsenal including some energy
weapons, it either means that the Brotherhood has stopped raiding the caravans or Gun
Runners do not care about losses. Gun Runners not caring about losing caravans seems very
unlikely while BOS not raiding caravans could be possible. In the Fallout Wasteland Warfare
expansion book, it says that the BOS is rebuilding its strength. Not raiding caravans could be
a part of this since rather than using its limited resources to attack caravans, its trying to
preserve the little strength it has left.

NCR body armor for its troops and patrol rangers are produced in the NCR.

Sources:

 Following quote implies that the Crimson Caravan is creating armor for NCR troops
Courier: "Give them a deal on the price, you'll have the upper hand in future, more
important negotiations."
Blake: Well, the Far Go Traders have been trying to edge us out on the new armor contract
for the troops. This could swing things in our favor. Give them a deal on the price, you'll
have the upper hand in future, more important negotiations. All right, let McCarran know
they should expect the first shipment in a week or so."
 Fallout New Vegas loading screen hints: “The distinctive black ranger combat armor consists
of the Desert Rangers' traditional trench coat worn with pre-War riot armor. Ranger patrol
armor is hand-manufactured in the NCR.”

Notes:

 Going by gameplay stats, Ranger patron armor offers the same protection as combat armor.
In addition to this, rangers in Fallout 2 wore combat armor.
 It is unclear what exactly the breastplate on NCR trooper armor is made from. Guesses
range from hardened leather to a metal. Going by in game stats its on par with reinforced
leather armor, which does use some metal for protection.
As of New Vegas, the NCR can create cement

Sources

 Chomp Lewis: “We make cement for the NCR using the limestone we dig out with dynamite
and draglines. Dirty work, but the pay's good.”

NCR has access to potentially several GECKS. Fallout Bible #6 gives details about how the GECK
functions; however, while there are similarities, it is much more different from how the GECK is viewed
in Fallout 1, 3, and 76. The Fallout Bible version of the GECK is essentially a survival kit. It contained a
fertilizer system, seeds, soil supplements, schematics to building structures like adobe building or
forcefields, codes to unlock different functions to its parent vault, holodisks containing books filled with
pre war knowledge, directions on how to disassemble a vault to construct buildings or defenses for a
settlement. It also contained a cold fusion reactor which was intended to power a settlement. In the
Fallout 1 GECK, it is described as being able to replicate basic items and food, meanwhile the GECK from
Fallout 3 and 76 is effectively a terraforming device.
