Statement of Intent

The organisation known as Agorá is a Student Union based on the paramount and imperative
principles of consensus, peace, equality, and cooperation as states in its Constitution. Its name
derives from the founders' inspiration of furthering the democratic process initiated two and a half
millennia ago in the city-states of ancient Greece. Initially, the Union will comprise the
International Public Management course with future plans to expand in order to include all English-
taught courses at De Haagse Hogeschool.
The body in charge of executing all decisions reached by the members is the Board of
Supervisors, which is itself comprised of seven democratically elected members with distinct and
diverse duties and responsibilities, as outlined in the Constitution. All members of one sex or the
other have the opportunity to run for administrative office or charge under conditions of equality
and non-discrimination as specified in the Bill of Rights.

The philosophy of the student union is based upon the precept that those who are being
instructed in public tertiary educational institutions have the right to determine the way their
experience at such institutions can be improved. The way through which decisions are reached is
based on consensus and democracy. The Union is a non-profit and non-partisan organization which
will strive to operate with absolute transparency and accountability.

The organisation aims at the continuous and relentless improvement of the social and
educational conditions present within the English courses offered by The Hague University (De
Haagse Hogeschool). The priorities cannot be any others but those of the body of members.
We believe that the students have the right to a student-run and independent monitoring
body in order to ensure that the development of the quality of instruction and the protection of the
rights of the students ought to be the main focusing points of a university's policies.
We also believe that throughout the efforts and participation of the students, with the
cooperation of educators, staff and already established institutions, the creation of student unions
can become instrumental in the development of the Netherlands, The Hague, and De Haagse
Hogeschool in particular, as a cosmopolitan and internationally oriented centre for education, peace
and security.
Agorá will continuously strive to improve and enhance the dialogue and cooperation
between itself, the student body, the University, and any other organization, individual or institution
dedicated to the ideals and principles of the Student Union and its members.
