1 GENERAL INFORMATION
SAL Management will ensure that all risks with a potential to cause harm to human life, envi-

methods and approach can be obtained from the Safety & Quality department.
The vessels are classed and certified by Germanischer Lloyd. The cranes are tested and certi-

SAL vessels are following BMP and specific, company-developed procedures for passing the
piracy area in the Gulf of Aden.
Further information regarding QHSE and Certification can be supplied upon request.
1.4 Communication
Toolbox meetings will be held with the ship’s officers, cargo representatives, agents, steve-
dores and other parties involved after vessels arrival/before start of operations.
Language of command and working language on the vessel is English. Captain, officers, bo-
sun, crane drivers and watchmen are equipped with handheld-VHF radios with private fre-
quencies for shipboard communication.
1.5 Responsibilities
The merchant shall deliver cargo and project information such as transportation drawings,
weights, dimensions, centre of gravity, lifting points, lashing points, footprints and other vital in-
formation about the shipment. Please note that SAL Engineering is depending on accurate in-
formation for proper planning.
Further to our interaction with the client / merchant, SAL Engineering will communicate with
the captain of the relevant vessel and SAL’s other departments to ensure that all relevant as-
pects of the shipment are taken into account.
The captain is in overall command of the ship and has the right to deviate from this manual
when found necessary or in order to comply with special conditions or situations.
The captain is in charge of the loading / discharging operation and is assisted by the chief
mate and / or the project engineer.
SAL will pre-calculate stability cases when found necessary. The ship will always pre-calculate
all critical stability cases and obtain a relevant weather-report for the loading/ discharging
area.
Any and all operations on board of the vessel are subject to the captain’s discretion of the op-
eration, being thus deemed safe for the vessel, her crew and the cargo.
The Project Manager towards the Client and towards the Project Engineer for all commercial
matters.
The Project Engineer towards the Client and the Vessel for engineering, planning and opera-
tional matters.
The Project Operations Manager is in charge of the information flow between Vessel, Engi-
neering and the Client.
The QHSE Manager is responsible for HSE on the project, HSE documentation and coordina-
tion with the project manager and personnel.
As per standard instructions on board, the crew will check seafastenings daily. During adverse
weather conditions, these checks are carried out more frequently as deemed necessary.
If changes have been decided upon during operations or on a very short notice, then these
changes have to be documented as per the company’s HSE Operational Control (SAL HSE
Manual Add. 1, 4.4.6): ‘Management of Change’.
The captain will send daily position reports including ETA message to the HQ which can be
