make it go faster or slower.

II. Instructional Materials

● computer

III. Subject Matter/ Content (prerequisite skills, key vocabulary, big idea, new
content)

● Prerequisite skills:

it slows it down
● Vocab:
○ n/a
● Big Idea:
○ To change the speed of an object you can push or pull it.

IV. Implementation

A. Introduction -

● “Good morning boys and girls! I hope everyone is having a great day. To
start our day I’d like everybody to think back to the last time you were on
a swing. Did somebody push you on the swing? What happened when you
were pushed?”
○ Pick 2-3 students
○ Repeat and emphasize parts of answers relating to speed
● “When you are pushed on a swing it makes you go faster. What would
happen if someone pulled you on the swing?”
○ Pick 2-3 students
● “If someone pulled you on a swing you would slow down.”

B. Development –

● “If something is pushed or pulled its speed will change but what does it
mean when we say something’s speed changed?
○ Pick 2-3 students
● “When the speed of something changes it means it goes either faster or
slower than it was already moving. Looking back at that swing a push
makes you go faster, and a pull makes you go slower. What are some
other examples of a push or pull changing something’s speed?”
○ Pick 2-3 students
○ Repeat answers

C. Closure –

● “I love games so to review our lesson let’s play a game! I am going to
give an example of something and tell you if it is pushed or pulled. If you
think the object would go faster give me a green check. If you think it will
go slower give me a red “x” If you are ready to begin, put your finger on
your nose.
○ “If I push a cart will it go faster or slower?”
○ “If I pull on the cart will it go faster or slower?”
○ “If I pull a wagon will it go faster or slower?”
○ “If I push the wagon will it go faster or slower?”
● “Great job today everybody! To celebrate let’s all raise the roof.”
○ Raise the roof
● “Now everybody can unmute their mic and say goodbye to all of your
friends.”
○ Wave goodbye
