1 ‘Uncompromising leaders are essential for a country to be successful.’ How true is this statement?

2 ‘You should not fear mass surveillance if you do nothing wrong and have nothing to hide.’ To what
extent do you agree with this opinion?

3 To what extent is conservation of the marine environment an important issue for your country?

4 Some museums have artefacts from other countries in their collections. Should these artefacts be
returned to their countries of origin?

5 ‘Every child in school can achieve academic success.’ Is this a realistic approach to adopt in
education policy?

6 How far do you agree that hobbies are a waste of time and money?

7 To what extent do art critics have an important role?

8 ‘Film adaptations of books are rarely successful.’ With reference to more than one example, would
you agree with this statement?

9 Music technology has a great impact on how music is created and produced. How far do you
agree that this is a positive development?

10 What is your country’s biggest social problem and how effectively is this being tackled?

11 The United Nations states that, across the world, only 30% of science researchers are women.
Why is it important to increase the number of females working in science and technology?

12 Which children’s books have you read that still have significance for you now? Explain the reasons
for your choices with reference to at least two books.
