Week 16-18

Art Appreciation

Overview
This week you will create a soulmaking art form that raises awareness on an important issue or
supports an advocacy and create a brief description about it. Your output should effectively
synthesize or put together your learnings and observations from this course.

Your output should reflect the issue or the advocacy that you would like to support. In the
description, state how your art form is based on facts and research about the issue or advocacy.

Expectations for the Week

● Complete your final output
● Post your final output in the social media platform of your choice

1
Create an art form that raises awareness on an important
issue or supports an advocacy
1. Create an art form that either:
○ Raises awareness on an important issue that has to be addressed, or
○ Promotes an advocacy that has to be heard

2
A caricature by cartoonist and illustrator Renan Ortiz of journalist Maria Ressa, who was convicted
of ‘cyber libel’ last month.

3
Comic strip by Elektromilk.

2. You can create any material based on your own art expression. It can be a doodle, quick
sketch, comic strip, digital art, poem, song, music video, or short clip.

4
3. Create a description of your output in a document processing application (such as
Microsoft Word or Google Documents). This allows you to check for grammar,
punctuation, or spelling errors that you would have otherwise missed. These types of
errors affect the clarity of your message.

Follow the format below in structuring your post. Make sure that you write in complete
sentences.

● Lead statement - this sets the scene and grabs your reader’s attention. This could
be:

○ a story about your personal experience that inspired you to make this art
form

○ excerpt from the news that you think needs more attention

○ an anecdote or short story from your interview or personal experience

○ a historical event that is related to your issue

○ a new study or breakthrough

● Argument - this is the main point that you’re trying to drive

● Points - these are pieces of evidence or facts that support your argument

● Conclusion - this reiterates your main point.

After writing your post, re-read it and ask yourself the questions below.

● Is my point clearly understood? What is it?

● Who should care about it? Who is the target audience?

● Does my post have substance? Is it supported by facts?

● Does my post contribute to the discussion and is helpful to the audience?

● Will those who disagree with me dismiss my opinions? Or will it lead to them
respecting my statements or possibly changing their minds?

Once you have finalized your post, check your output against the Final Output rubric in
the Rubrics folder.
