Over the 2017-2018 school year I performed a total of twenty-seven hours of service to

the community. I felt that these services were uplifting for me and it felt very good to have the

opportunity to give my time helping others. The services I performed were meaningful to me,

and I am glad I had the experience.

Services that I performed included helping at the St. Alphonsus Church Vacation Bible

Camp, it was an amazing experience and gave me the opportunity to work with younger

children. I participated as a counselor, and I led a group of first graders around over the course of

the week. I also volunteered at the Catholic Grade School Cross-Country Championship, this

was a fun and new experience for me, and I had a great time helping all of the younger children

by setting up the event, announcing prayers, being course monitors, cleaning up the event,

announcing the awards, passing out ribbons, and passing out water.

I volunteered at the St. Alphonsus Church and Bible Camp because it was a big event at

my parish, and I enjoyed helping the young kids and leading them around during the week. I

enjoy working with kids and giving my time to them, because when I was a younger kid I looked

up to older kids as role-models, so I did this to be positive role models for them while I could be

working with younger kids as I enjoy to. I volunteered at the Catholic Grade School Cross-

Country Championship with my cross-country team, because this was an event that I had

previously participated in for multiple years, and it was a good opportunity for me to help put on

an event that was so special and memorable to me.

In many ways I have benefitted from performing these acts of service towards my

community. Through being a counselor, I developed more patience from working with the young

kids, I exhibited leadership skills through leading them around over the course of the week, and I

benefited from the use of responsibility by setting a good example for them, helping them in

certain activities, and making sure no one got lost. Others benefited because I gave my time to

the children so that the event could run smoothly, and I was a positive role model for the kids

through exercising responsibility. In volunteering at the Catholic Grade School Cross-Country

Championship, I benefited through getting the opportunity to return to an event that I had been

attending for multiple years prior that meant so much to me, and I got to help and cheer on kids

that just like me, run at the course every year with big hopes of doing well. Others benefited

from my service by making it a fun experience for the kids and parents by making the meet run

smoothly, and my coach benefited because through our helping because then she did not have to

run the whole thing by herself which would have caused a lot of stress and the event would not

have been run smoothly.

It is very essential for Christians to perform service because it is an uplifting experience

for both them and others through serving their communities and those who are younger, older, or

less fortunate than them. It is always fun and makes you grateful for all that you have, and makes

you want to help those who do not have as much as you. It is an opportunity to give back to the

community that you live in which makes a more positive society.
