LESSON PLAN IN GENERAL MATHEMATICS 11

July 18, 2019

Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of inverse

functions, exponential functions, and logarithmic functions.
Performance The learner is able to apply the concepts of inverse functions,
Standards exponential functions, and logarithmic functions to formulate and
solve real-life problems with precision and accuracy.
CODE M11GM-Id-2
Learning The learner…
Competency 1. determines the inverse of a one-to-one function.

I. LESSON OBJECTIVES
Along the 60-minute session, the students are expected to:
1. identify the steps in finding the inverse of a one-to-one function;
2. solve for the inverse of a one-to-one function;
3. relate inverse functions in real-life situations.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Inverse of One-to-One Functions
Reference: Lesson 10: Inverse of One-to-One Functions. (2016).
Teaching Guide for Senior High School General
Mathematics (pp. 69 – 75).
Instructional Materials: LED TV, Manila paper, Pentel pen, Chalk

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance and Classroom Management
4. Review (2 minutes)
To determine if the students understood the previous lesson, the teacher will flash the
following question on the LED TV screen, and selected students will answer.

Determine if the following is a one-to-one function or not.

1. {(2,9),(4,5), (11,5)} 2. {(1,1),(9,3), (16,4), (4,2)}

3. {(𝐾𝑎𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑦𝑛, 𝐷𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑒𝑙),(𝐿𝑖𝑧𝑎, 𝐸𝑛𝑟𝑖𝑞𝑢𝑒),(𝐽𝑢𝑙𝑖𝑎,𝐽𝑜𝑠ℎ𝑢𝑎),(𝐽𝑎𝑛𝑒,𝐽𝑜𝑠ℎ𝑢𝑎),( Nadine,James)}

B. Pre – Assessment (3 minutes)

Students will get ¼ sheet of paper and will answer the following questions: (True or False)
1. The last step in solving the inverse of a one-to-one function is setting y=f (x ).
2. The inverse of f ( x ) is f −1 ( x ).
−1 x−1
3. The inverse of f ( x )=3 x +1 is f ( x )= .
3

C. Developmental Activities:
1. Motivation (3 minutes) – Oops Drill
The teacher will present unarranged phrase on the LED TV screen, and these will be
arranged accordingly by the students. Selected students will rearrange the phrase.

ENIMRETED EHT ESREVNI FO A

ENO-OT-ENO NOITCNUF
2. Presentation of Topic and Lesson Objectives (2 minutes)
The teacher will introduce the topic to the students and a student will read all
of the lesson objectives.

3. Pre-Activity (5 minutes)
The teacher will discuss the answer to #3 in the Pre-Assesment.
Find the inverse of f ( x )=3 x +1.
Also, the teacher will discuss the answer to the problem below.
x +2
Find the inverse of f ( x )= .
x

D. Lesson Procedure
1. Activity – Group Activity (20 minutes)
a. The class will be divided into ten (10) groups.
b. They will determine the inverse of the given one-to-one functions.
1
 Group 1 and 6 – f ( x )= x +4
2
3
 Group 2 and 7 – f (x)=
x−4
x +3
 Group 3 and 8 – f (x)=
x−3
2 x +1
 Group 4 and 9 – f (x)=
4 x−1
 Group 5 and 10 – f ( x )=3 x−8
c. They will write their answers in a Manila paper.
d. They will choose a representative from their group to report their output.

2. Analysis and Discussion (5 minutes)

a. How did you find the activity?
b. How did you come up with your answers?
c. How did you determine the inverse of a one-to-one function?
d. Did you notice that there are steps to be followed in finding the inverse of a one-
to-one function?

3. Abstraction (5 minutes)
a. What are the steps in finding the inverse of a one-to-one function?
b. How did you solve for the inverse of a one-to-one function?
4. Application (5 minutes)
The teacher will ask the students the following:
 In your subjects for this quarter, in what subject can you apply/use hypothesis
testing?
 Why do you think hypothesis testing is useful in Research?
IV. EVALUATION (5 minutes)
Post Assessment: In a ¼ sheet of paper, answer the following:
1. The second step in finding the inverse of a one-to-one function is
a. Set y=f (x ) b. Interchange the variables x and y
2. The inverse of f (x) is
a. f −1 ( x) b. f −1 ( y )
3. The inverse of f ( x )=2 x +4
−1 x−4 −1 x +4
a. f ( x )= b. f ( x )=
