VIDHWAAN

Design a X/Y KV Substation showing all the equipments with their proper ratings feeding
electrical block in your institute.
Also design electrical wiring diagram (blue print) showing the components of two-
storeyed electrical department building.
The loads in the electrical department are :-
1) eight laboratories :
a) electric machines laboratory :
b) power electronics labs
c) Control system lab
d) Measurement and instrumentation labs
e) Microprocessor lab
f) High voltage lab
g) AutoCAD Lab
h) Signal and system lab
2) ten lecture rooms
3) Twenty tutorial rooms
4) 4 seminar halls
5) HOD’s cabin
6) 24 teacher’s cabins.
7) 6 washrooms.
8) 2 water cooler.
9) 8 Lawn lights.
10) And all other necessary loads needed (not mentioned above as you wish).

The loads in the each teacher’s cabin are :


1. 2 tubes , 1 fan, 1 cooler, 1 AC, 1CFL, 2 bulbs, 1 PC in each room.
2. Blower (full house temperature controller). 2 plug points.
3. And all other necessary appliances needed (not mentioned above as you wish).
4. diversity factor: 1.2 demand factor: 0.8
The loads in each lecture room:
1. 8 fans , 18 tubelights, 2 blackboard tube lights, 4 plug points.
2. And all other necessary appliances needed (not mentioned above as you wish).
3. Diversity factor: 1.4, demand factor : 0.8
The loads in each tutorial room:
1. 4 tubelights, 2 CFL, 3 fans, 1 blackboard tube, 1 plug point .

2. Diversity factor : 1.4, Demand factor : 0.8
The loads in each seminar hall:
1. 10 tubelights, 6 fans, 2 AC, 6 CFLs, 2 PC, 2 projectors.

3. Demand factor: 0.8 diversity factor: 1.2
The loads in each washroom:
1. 6 tubelights, 2 CFLs, 4 exhaust fans. Demand factor: 0.85
2. And all other necessary appliances needed (not mentioned above as you wish).
The loads in HOD’s cabin :
1. 6 tubelights, 2 CFL, 4 fans, 1 AC, 1 PC.
2. 1 Blower, 4 plug points
3. And all other necessary appliances needed (not mentioned above as you wish).
4. Div factor: 1.2, demand factor: 0.8
The loads in electric machines lab :
(A) 4 sets of (D.C. Generator + exciter + synchronous motor).
D.C. Generator:
6.4 KVA , 50 Hz , 0.85 pf , 220 V, 1.5 A , 1500 rpm , insulation class: B.
Exciter:
0.6 Kw, 75 V, 0.82 A , 1500 rpm.
Synchronous motor :
10 kw, 1 pf, 400 V, 25 A, 50 Hz, 1500rpm.
(B) 4 sets of ( slip-ring motor + D.C. Generator + squirrel-cage motor)
Slip- ring motor:
7 kw, 50 Hz, 1500rpm
Rotor: 220 V, 19.5 A.
D.C.Generator:
7 KVA, 0.85pf , 1500 rpm
100/190/300 V, 63/33/21 A.
Excitation: 230 V, 3 A.
Squirrel-cage motor:
7 Kw, 1 pf, 400/230 V, 14.5/25 A, 960 rpm.
(C) 2 sets of Schrage motor:
3.3-10 kw, 400 V , 50 Hz, 24 A, 700 - 2100 rpm .
Stator : 22 A.
(D) 20 tubelights, 12 fans, 8 PC, 2 cooler, 2 AC, 20 power plug points.
(E) Diversity factor: 1.4, demand factor: 0.8
(F) And all other necessary appliances needed (not mentioned above as you
wish).
The loads of other labs:
1. 12 tubelights, 6 fans, 10 plug points, 2 AC, 4 PC in each lab
2. 1- 5 kw , 50 Hz, 0.8 pf, 220 V, 5 A
3. Diversity factor : 1.5, demand factor : 0.85
4. And all other necessary appliances needed (not mentioned above as
you wish).
The loads of high voltage lab:

1. 30-80 Kw, 50 Hz, 0.85 pf, 280 KV/ 100 KV/50KV.


2. 10 tubelights, 6 fans, 2 PC, 2 cooler, 1 AC, 8 power plug points.
3. And all other necessary appliances needed (not mentioned above as
you wish).
4. Demand factor: 0.75, diversity factor: 1.1
CONDITIONS:-
1. MINIMUM 8 hours continuous supply needed at electrical department.
2. Grounding should be proper
3. Security and protection should be taken care of.
4. System should be balanced

Ratings of different loads :


1. Tube (40W), fan(120W), CFL (15W)
2. AC (1.5 kW)
3. PC with speaker (1250W)
4.Vacuum cleaner = 1000-1440
5. Lawn lights(40 W)-4 hours.
6. 3φ induction motor(water pump)-10kW, 400V,60hz
7.Single phase induction motor-230 V, 10 kW
8. Blower (DC motor)-230 V, 5 kW.

To be calculated and submitted:


1. Blue print of wiring sequence(single line diagram).
2. Types of cable and protection used.
3. Total energy consumed per day
4. One separate copy of calculation record, Load curve and all formulae used must be
submitted.
5. Tariff per day at the rate 4.5 Rs per unit.

NOTE: FOR LAYOUT OF ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT, respective college’s


electrical department can be taken as a reference.

Instructions:-

1. Max 3 members per team.


2. Line diagram must be on full size chart and more than 1 chart can be used if required.
3. Last date of submission is 21th January( FOR OUTSIDE COLLEGES DEAD LINE IS
22 th January).
4. Proper report is also required for all the calculations, protection scheme and other
thing which were considered during problem solving.
