SECTION 1 ECO IDLE STOP FUNCTION

SECTION 1 ECO IDLE STOP FUNCTION

Machine tools are equipped with many auxiliary units including the hydraulic and cooling units adding to the
spindle (s) and the feed axes, and thus consume the power even when the machine tool is not used for
machining a workpiece.
The ECO idle stop function reduces power consumption by stopping the auxiliary units while the machine tool
is not used for machining. The auxiliary units to be stopped and the time to stop can be set on the ECO
parameter screen as desired.

1-1. ECO Idle Stop Command

The ECO idle stop function can be activated either by manual operation or automatically.

(1) Manual ECO idle stop ON

When the ECO IDLE STOP button is pressed with the ECO idle stop
manual conditions met, the ECO idle stop mode is activated. When the
ECO idle stop mode is activated, the lamp at the upper left corner lights up.
When the ECO IDLE STOP button is pressed with the ECO idle stop mode
ON, the ECO idle stop mode is released.
SE942163R0400300020001

(2) Automatic ECO idle stop ON

By setting the automatic ECO idle stop mode ON in advance, the ECO idle stop mode is
activated automatically when the automatic ECO idle stop conditions remain satisfied for the
time set in the parameter below. When the ECO idle stop mode is activated, the lamp at the
upper left corner of the ECO IDLE STOP button lights up.
When the ECO IDLE STOP button is pressed with the ECO idle stop mode ON, the ECO idle
stop mode is released.

SECTION 6 PRECAUTIONS

SECTION 6 PRECAUTIONS
 There are some auxiliary units that will not be stopped by the ECO idle stop function.

 Some units share the pump between the coolant system and the chip washing unit. In such a case,
when the auxiliary unit on the side that controlling the pump is stopped, the mated auxiliary unit is also
stopped.

 Various parameters required for power calculation have been set in advance for the spindles and feed
axes. Based on those parameters the power consumption is calculated from the machine operating
status and the servo unit status. Therefore, the calculated power consumption may not be the same as
the actual power consumption depending on the machine usage method or usage environment.

 The power consumption with auxiliary units are calculated based on the average power consumption set
in advance and the auxiliary unit ON/OFF status. Therefore, the calculated power consumption may not
be the same as the actual power consumption depending on the machine usage method or usage
environment. Especially the difference from the actual power consumption may become large with the
auxiliary units controlled based on the external sensor data such as the auxiliary unit employing the
inverter control method or the oil temperature controller.

 When the power meter is installed (optional specification), only the integrated power is acquired from the
power meter. The instant power may not be the same as the actual power consumption depending on the
machine usage method or usage environment since the instant power is determined by calculation.
