Earthquake is one of the famous disasters that caused people died or

injured. It cannot be detected when and where it would be happened to anyone.

This is mostly happened in places where people are hanging around and working.
Earthquake is understood by being a natural phenomenon caused by the constant
movements of the earth’s crustal plates and due to climate change too.

SURVIVAL is a challenge for everyone nowadays as series of calamitous and

unfortunate events unfold this year, from the eruption of Taal Volcano to the pandemic
which has already put an end to thousands of lives not only in the Philippines but also in the
whole world. How to survive is a question that plays a huge part in everyone's life. Failure to
equip oneself with an answer to such question would definitely subject a person to risks that
are unimaginable and hard to escape no matter how fast you'd run. As today's world has
become so complicated and as nature continues to test our resilience, it is high time for
everyone to BE INFORMED, BE READY and BE RESPONSIVE to any challenge our world may
offer as it had been disappointingly put-upon. Education and preparedness are people's
shield against any untoward forces the world may throw. Other than the pandemic and
volcanic eruption that may have challenged our preparedness and resilience, earthquakes
should also be given ample consideration, preparation and action. It strikes without
warning. It could be so devastating especially among people knowing nothing: knowing
nothing about what to do during and after its occurence and most importantly what to do
BEFORE its existence that calls for AWARENESS and PREPAREDNESS. Knowing how to
REACT immediately and appropriately are the best things to consider for the safety of the
majority. All these are TIPAS NHS community's impetus to taking steps and initiatives to
making everyone READY. As a community always wanting to ensure people's safety, TNHS
actively participated in the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council as
well as the Office of Civil Defense' NATIONWIDE SIMULTANEOUS EARTHQUAKE DRILL on
SEPTEMBER 10,2020 at 2pm. Though everyone's facing the threat of the current pandemic,
the whole TNHS community took part in the activity as they all do recognize the vital role
PREPAREDNESS plays in ensuring safety in these trying times and uncertainty. With the
slogan #BidaAngHanda, this activity aims to intensify communities' earthquake
preparedness and increase institutions' commitment in building safe communities. Students,
faculty members, administrators and parents simultaneously did the drill of duck, cover and
hold in their homes observing the prescribed health protocols. Prior to the conduct of such
drill, teachers oriented their students about the rules of thumb in the occurence of
earthquakes. With the online pressing of the button via facebook live, everyone's given a
GO signal when to do the drill. Some did the duck, cover and hold steps inside their homes
while some, outside. Participants took into consideration the things to do when earthquake
struck while they are inside their homes and even outside. Such drill and this activity in
general may be repetitive but it is through constant reminding and doing that people may
master the key to survival. Tipas National High School (Grade 7-12) will always be a
community fostering unity and safety.
