PROJECT TITLE:

CONSTRUCTION OF MAHARLIKA PLAZA FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH ENHANCEMENT

Brief Description:

Upi is one of the relatively peaceful municipality in Maguindanao Province where the tri-people
consisting of Tedurays (lumad), Moro and settlers co-exist harmoniously.

The Maharlika plaza as the town center, symbolizes this unity as a venue where the tri-people of Upi can
hold activities together. To mention a few, such activities include the celebration of Day of Peace,
Meguyaya Festival, Trade Fairs and others tourism promotion activities.

The development and rehabilitation of the Maharlika Plaza will entice people to visit or gather at the
plaza. As a result, business owners will also be persuaded to set up business near the area. This in turn,
will enhance economic growth with the increase of tourism activities at the town center.

Barangay Kuya, South Upi is home to the Teduray Tribe, one of the most known Indigenous Peoples in
the country. South Upi has vast lands of fertile soil home to healthy animals. Their primary livelihood is
farming and their main source of power is solar energy. The Teduray lived peacefully until recently when
armed men in black came to claim their land.
