CHAPTER TWO

2.1 INTRODUCTION

This chapter cover the main body of activities which show what has been taken during
fieldwork. It contains main features concerning Placement in organization(department),Activities
performed, work environment, Challenges faced, Solution to the faced challenges, Expectation
and the result of reattachment, New things learned, Gaps in the theory and practical teaching and
Relevance of attachment

2 2 PLACEMENT IN THE ORGANIZATION

I started my practical training at Camusat on 26th April 2017 in procurement department under
the supervision of Mr. Wiliam Gebra as the head of procurement management unit it’s through
this office that all the requirements are being addressed so as to run operations smooth

2.3 ACTIVIES/DUTIES/TASKS PERFORMED BY THE STUDENT

Here are several activities taken during my fieldwork at Camusat Tanzania Limited as follow below:-

Networking

Newtwork is a system in which multiple devices are connected to each other to share information and
resources. Following is the list of hardware's required to set up a network Network which are Network
Cables, Distributors, Routers, Internal Network Cards, External Network Cards and Universal Serial Bus
(USB).

Connect a Printer to Computer. The following is how to connect wired printer on Windows

i
 Set your printer near your computer and Turn on your printer.
 Computer turned on and unlocked then plug the printer into your computer using a USB cable
 Open Start. Click the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
 Click Settings then click add devices
 Click Printers
 Click your printer's name and click Add device.
 Follow the on-screen instructions.Depending on your printer, you may need to customize your
settings before the printer is ready; once you're done, the printer will be available for use.

Set Up Local Area Network.

A local area network (LAN) is a group of computers and associated devices that share a common
communications line or wireless link to a server. Typically, a LAN encompasses computers and
peripherals connected to a server within a distinct geographic area such as an office or a commercial
establishment. Computers and other mobile devices use a LAN connection to share resources such as a
printer or network storage.

 Gather your network hardware. To create a LAN, you'll need a router or switch, which will act as
the hub of your network. These devices route information to the correct
computers.A router will automatically handle assigning IP addresses to each device on the
network, and is necessary if you intend to share your internet connection with all the connected
devices. It is highly recommended that you build your network with a router, even if you're not
sharing an internet connection.A network switch is like a simpler version of a router. It will allow
connected devices to talk to each other, but will not automatically assign IP addresses and will
not share an internet connection. Switches are best used to expand the number of LAN ports
available on the network, as they can be connected to the router
 Set up your router. You don't need to do much to set up a router for a basic LAN. Just plug it into
a power source, preferably close to your modem if you plan on sharing the internet connection
through it.
 Connect your modem to your router (if necessary). If you're sharing the internet connection
from your modem, connect the modem to the WAN/INTERNET port on the router.
 Connect your switch to your router (if necessary). If you're using a switch to expand the number
of ports available on the router, plug an Ethernet cable into any LAN port on the router and any
LAN port on the switch

i
 Connect your computers to open LAN ports. Use Ethernet cables to connect each computer to
an open LAN port on your router or switch. It doesn't matter what order the ports are
connected in.Ethernet cables cannot reliably transfer data at lengths larger than 100m (328 ft).
 Setup one PC as a DHCP server if you're just using a switch. If you're only using a switch as your
network hub, setting up one computer as a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server
will allow all of the connected computers to easily obtain IP addresses.
 Verify the network connection on each computer. After each computer obtains an IP address,
they'll be able to talk to each other on the network.
 Set up file and printer sharing. Once your network is up.

Connecting Laptop To Projector.

The following are steps for Connecting a Laptop to a Projector

 Make sure your computer and laptop are both turned off
 Connect the video cable (usually VGA) from your laptop’s external video port to the projector.
 Plug your projector into an electrical outlet and press the “power” button to turn it ON.
 Turn on your laptop.
 If you need audio for your presentation, connect the laptop’s “audio out” port to the projector,
or to another sound system.
 Sync the projector and laptop by holding down the FUNCTION (Fn) key and pressing one of the
following keys to toggle: F4, F5, F7, F8

Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting is a systematic approach to problem solving that is often used to find and correct issues
with complex machines, electronics, computers and software systems. The first step in troubleshooting is
gathering information on the issue, such as an undesired behavior or a lack of expected functionality.
Other important information includes related symptoms and special circumstances that may be required to
reproduce the issue as follow below.

Network troubleshooting.

Network troubleshooting is the collective measures and processes used to identify, diagnose and
resolve problems and issues within a computer network. Some of the processes within network
troubleshooting include:-

i
Finding and resolving problems and establishing Internet or network connection of a computer or
device, Configuring a router, switch or any network management device; Installing cables or Wi-
Fi devices, Updating firmware devices on router switch, Removing viruses, Adding, configuring
and reinstalling a network printer.
Network troubleshooting can be a manual or automated task. When using automated tools,
network management can be done using network diagnostic software.

Troubleshooting Device Driver Problems.

A device driver is a program that controls a particular type of device that is attached to
your computer. There are device drivers for printers, displays, CD-ROM readers, diskette
drives, and so on. When you buy an operating system, many device drivers are built into
the product. Here are a few basic techniques for correcting device driver problems:-
Reinstall the driver; A driver might be malfunctioning because one or more of its files
have become corrupted. You can usually solve this problem by reinstalling the driver.
Disable an unsigned driver. If an unsigned driver is causing system instability and you
can’t upgrade the driver, try disabling it. In Device Manager, double-click the device to
open its Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Disable.
Try the manufacturer’s driver supplied with the device. If the device came with its own
driver (say, on a CD or DVD), either try updating the driver to the manufacturer’s or try
running the device’s setup program from the disc

Software Installation.

Software installation is a way of life when you own a computer. As long as the computer
is functional, software installation will be a never ending process that your computer will
be subjected to. In order to keep your system optimized. following the steps will prevent
most problems when it comes to software integrity.
Research first before installing.Never disregard the minimum requirements.
Make sure the software is legitimate and does not infringe any copyright.
Pay attention to the information that pops up when installing the software.
Lastly, always uninstall a program you installed if you do not intend to use it. Most
common issues we get when doing support is slow computers that are loaded with tons of

i
programs that the user never really uses. This is the most common cause of slow
performance. Lack of housekeeping is sure to cause performance issues on computers.

2.3.7GENERAL OBSERVATION AND LESSON LEARNED

i. During my training period, I learned most of must know things which are generally
enrolled with in information system and computer networking. Also, I learned and come
across with equipment and tools which are basically used during setting and
implementing of computer network.
ii. Some of the components and devices I normally saw and use them during training were
things like UTP cables, RJ’S connectors, clipping tool, switch, and small-scale servers.
iii. I also learned about Ad hoc Network. Simply Ad hoc network is network feature which is
preinstall mostly in windows platform and other operating systems. What is needed is just
one step of configuring your LAN through the home group network you just created.
iv. I learned on how to install LAN and wireless connection. Local area network is a
computer network that interconnects computers in a limited area such as a home, school,

i
computer laboratory, or office building using network media and bunch of other network
topologies.
v. In this chapter, I observed that every employee of Camusat Tanzania Limited were given
the first priority by getting wireless connection of their computers and other things that
goes with computer staff at the company.

2.3 WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment at Camusat (T) limited is conducive, friendly, inspiring, motivating and
easy to adopt. The first impression we received from management, staff and non-staff members
was welcoming and they had a great pleasure for us to work with them, train us and learn from
each other. Cooperation and teamwork is a key to success and the essential component for
fulfillment of organization goals.

2.4 PROBLEM FACED DURING FIELD.

There were no major problems faced that could affect the effective execution of the assigned
Duties. This is because Camusat is a well-organized firm. However, since problems are
inevitable,
Some minor problems were faced, which I shared with my colleagues and other associates for
help.
Problems faced were mainly explained by the fact that during my training I was transforming
Theories acquired in lectures into practice and lack of experience in working environment.
Practical training was the first time working experience. I considered these as challenges and not
Problem per se.
Another challenge I faced is the lack of basic knowledge in computerized accounting experience.
I had to spend a lot of time to study and acquire the knowledge needed at the time.
Despite of above small challenges faced my field training was enjoyable and no major problem
were faced. This makes me conclude it was successful as most of the targeted goals were met.
2.6 BENEFITS OF FIELD REATTACHMENT

i. It provides the picture of what I have done through the whole time of almost nine weeks
ii. It can be used for reference to other learning parts during my upcoming semesters
iii. It is a preamble step for performing and write more complex works like projects

i
2.8 GAPS IN TEACHING THEORY AND PRACTICES

Normally theory and practice are two sides of the coin where by the things which are taught
theoretically should be applicable practically in a certain working environment of that particular
issue.

During Practical training its where there was a realization of the big vacuum which is still
prevailing between theories we are gathering in the formal education and their practical
application. There are a lot of things which are supposed to be covered theoretically to prepare a
student to face them in the working place but most of the syllabuses do not cover them.

When theories are provided they don’t include computer application of the issues covered which
is very different to what is practically performed because in the current world of globalization,
most of the tasks are computer oriented. What is covered in classes related to practical training
for instance Management Information system for organization (MIS) is not reflecting exactly
how things are being done practically.

The issue of communication skills, in many organization English is used to the large extent as a
medium of communication. In business there are many terminologies which are used in working
places and student must become familiar with them but Business Communication Skills as a
course taken covers few concept and fail to make the students to become fluent in that language
hence when most of the students went in the working places find it difficult to understand other
things. This can easily be observed to most of the new workforce.

i
CHAPTER THREE
3.1INTRODUCTION
The chapter shows the ending of documents that covers two essential features that are conclusion
and recommendation

3.1 CONCLUSIONS

After going through a lot of experience and exposure of the working environment and the work
itself, the organization has been a great foundation to build up my skills and upgrade my
knowledge. The Information Technology office has done all what it could avail for my
successful completion. To such an extent, this placement has been a capacity builder up in terms
of work efficiency

The work however needed enthusiasm, as at times manual work took place hence capability and
energy played a big role. A lot has been learned by practice from theory part back at campus
hence the placement has been worth it in terms of skill and knowledge acquisition.

3.2 RECOMMENDATIONS

Despite the fact that we had a long training period but it sounds more great having this practice
twice so as to conceptualize matters that were not taken in the first period of time. In so doing,
one can rectify all those ideas that were not practically implemented bearing in mind that not all
can be done in the given time.
