What it means to be a pediatric nurse is a nurse who specializes in taking care of a patient

that is a child and caring for that child in time of need. Pediatric Nurses are a part of our way of

life. Without Nurses, parents would not receive the proper knowledge of the problem with their

child, children would not receive the proper medical care needed for the diagnosis, and doctors

would have too much on their workload to handle.

Nurses are people that can help parents understand an unfortunate diagnosis or can be a

good thing. With this being said, parents don’t always understand how bad a situation is and if a

doctor just tells them what’s wrong without any explanation, who is going to help them

understand what the diagnosis of the child is? This is why we have nurses. Nurses can help

explain the problem of a child if they don’t necessarily understand a doctor. This quote is a great

example of helping a parent understand, “Tell me and I’ll forget; Show me and I may remember;

involve me and I’ll understand.”(Chinese Proverb)

Children would not receive the proper care without someone who is there to help. If a

child never goes to the doctor when sick then a parent is putting their child at risk for many

diseases they could accumulate or may even end up dying because of this. When a child does get

sick, the child is taken to the doctors and there are people who will help the child feel better.

Nurses are there to take blood work and test everything so that they can help find a solution to

what is causing the child to feel sick.Sometimes all a child needs is come one who cares and this
author perfectly describes in this quote, “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a

smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest accomplishment, or the smallest act of caring, all of

which java the potential to turn a life around” (Buscalgia).

Sometimes doctors have too much work on their plate and never get done because they

are dealing with patients all day, going to meetings, sending and receiving messages, making and

receiving important phone calls. With all that work, it feels like doctors are never able to get

things done because they have so much to do. This is where nurses come in, taking all the phone

calls and making sure patient information is up to date. Nurses are also making sure that a patient

has at least had all vitals and blood work done and to see what the diagnosis is to tell the doctor

so all they have to do is see the patient and the chars along with tests if needed. So by the end of

the day a doctor can go home with a satisfactory day because the nurses take care of everything.

This quote best describes how unmotivating it can be for a messy desk, “There is nothing less

motivating to me than a completely messy desk”(Griffin).
