1 INTRODUCTION
ISP is the acronym of In-System Programming, which makes it possible that the user can update the
MCU’ s program memory under the software control without removing the mounted MCU chip from the
actual end product. The MCU’ s LDROM is pre-programmed with Nuvoton standard ISP code and
CONFIG bits are properly configured.

2 FEATURES

2.1 Support chip of Nuvoton


• Please reference datasheet form http://www.nuvoton.com

2.2 UART setting


• Baud rate: 115200 bps
• Data: 8 bits
• Parity check: None
• Stop bit: 1 bit

2.3 Supports connected com ports automatic


• Step1: Nuvoton 8051 writer board has connected PC and power on it.
• Step2: Start to run Nuvoton NuMicro ISP Programmer AP.

2.4 Limitation
• Download file format: bin or Intel hex file format. Intel Hex format supports Intel 8, 16 and 32.

3 INSTALLATION

3.1 System requirement


The hardware and software requirements for installing Nuvoton NuMicro ISP Programmer system are
as follows:
• PC/AT compatible machine with Pentium or higher CPU
• XVGA(1024*768) color monitor
• At least 512M RAM for best performance
• At least 20M free disk space
• Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7
• Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation

3.2 Hardware installation

3.2.1 UART
• Step1: Plug the power adapter into the power connector of the Nuvoton NuMicro ISP Programmer
board
• Step2: The RS232 cable is connected to PC and Nuvoton NuMicro ISP Programmer board
• Step3: To Press SW2 button for booting from LDROM
• Caution: Exercise care when using the power adapter. Do not use a power adapter whose
output voltage is not 5V, otherwise the Nuvoton NuMicro ISP Programmer board may be
damaged. It is strongly recommended that only the power adapter supplied by Nuvoton be
used.

3.2.2 USB
• Step1: Plug USB cable into the USB port of the Nuvoton NuMicro ISP Programmer board
• Step2: To Press SW2 button for booting from LDROM

3.3 Software installation


• Don’t install software, user can run AP directly.

During ISP operation, the Cortex-M0’s GPB15 is used for checking boot from LDROM.

6 QUICK START
In this chapter, introduce the general operations.

6.1 Open com port or USB port


The Nuvoton NuMicro ISP Programmer supports connected the COM port or USB port of PC
automatic if hardware has been ready.

6.1.1 Before connect


• User can manually connect the COM port or USB port of PC. The COM port support that PC
detected com ports.

6.1.2 After connect successful


• The Nuvoton NuMicro ISP Programmer shows chip information.

6.2 File Information


• To select file from PC and display file name, file size and checksum in file information block.

6.3 Configuration bits


• It contains configuration bits setting by chip choice.

6.4 Program
• It contains APROM, DataFlash and APROM+DataFlash options and configuration setting selected
by user choice. User can press Start button to programming code.

6.5 Status
• It contains progress bar and program status. If the programmer program success to show PASS,
or program failure to show FAIL
