“People are going to have their
opinion,” said the senior physical
education major. “There is no need
to ban the Web site. It is completely
anonymous so it shouldn’t affect you
as a person.”
Paige does not think banning any
particular Web site, such as juicyc-
ampus.com, would solve the greater
problem illustrated by the posts.
“I think that if people have an
interest in engaging in this particu-
lar behavior, they would just simply
find another way,” she said.
Paige said she feels this site is
just another example of how people
share information with one another.
“Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear
that much of what gets posted to
this particular Web site is positive,”
she said. “This site is only what peo-
ple make of it, and it appears that
people are making this particular
site a location for negative and often
untrue statements.”

“I would guess that often people
do not think about the harm that
a simple Internet post can have on
an individual in the short and long
term,” she said. “I believe that the
central issue here is that of respect-

“I have to pick up some meetings,”
McCann said.
He said he would get to know
more of the groups on campus
such as Faculty Senate, Student
Senate and the Council on Uni-
versity Planning and Budget.
“There are a lot of important
issues on our table,” McCann said.
He said the proposed Renew-
able Energy Center is one major
issue that will be worked on in
hope of finding a solution.
President Bill Perry said he
picked McCann after asking differ-
ent groups on campus to describe
what types of characteristics were
needed in an interim vice presi-
dent for business affairs.
He then considered the three-
to four-month period an interim
would serve, which includes the
legislative session.
He said he selected McCann for
those reasons.

“Tower is a unique dining room

lines,” Huckstead said. “We have a
much smaller salad bar area than the
other dining centers, which would
require student workers to be in an
area where they could also monitor
(dishware) being taken out of the
dining centers.”
Hudson said cameras being
installed in Stevenson would be able
to watch over students taking dishes.
“Once an employee sees someone
leaving the center with dishes, they
are to go up to them and give them a
warning,” Hudson said. “It’s expen-
sive, and we want to educate them.”
Because so many dishes have
not been returned, there are amnes-
ty boxes on each floor of Lincoln,
Douglas and Stevenson halls for stu-
dents to anonymously return items
they have taken.

ago, the dining centers went to all
plastic, but realized the price was

going up and they do not want to go
back to that.
“It is disappointing that we are
trying to be more ‘earth friendly,’
yet it will end up costing the dining
center and Panther Dining in gener-
al much more money due to the loss
of equipment and ultimately end up
costing the students more,” Huck-
stead said.
Right now, Stevenson’s dishware
is borrowed from other dining halls.
“Students need to understand
they need to work with us to keep
the meal plan cost down,” Hudson
said.

Inyart said those issues are finan-
cial security in the city; the invest-
ment and promotion of new com-
mercial, industrial and residential
construction; and continuing with
improving the city’s image through
renovation projects such as the Waste
Water Treatment Plant.
“The biggest issue the new
municipality will face is the results
of the predicted financial downturn
explained by our comptroller at the
retreat,” Inyart said.
City Comptroller Heather Kuyk-
endall explained that according to
timeline estimates, smaller cities
would feel the effects of the reces-
sion 18 to 24 months after the ini-
tial reports.
Because of this, Inyart said he
wants his campaign to emphasize
his term’s financial preparedness
through “proper planning and fiscal
restraint.”
The improvements to local busi-
ness and residential areas help to bol-
ster the Charleston economy and
foster new growth, according to
Inyart’s announcement. Through
this, the city is able to continue on a
path of development, he said.
The city’s renovations of high traf-
fic city streets like Fourth Street and
Polk Avenue were also accomplish-
ments outlined in Inyart’s announce-
ment. The final touches on the face-
lift of City Hall will continue into
the new term as well as the pend-
ing renovation project on the Waste
Water Treatment Plant.
“I think I’m helping, and I would
hope that people see that,” he said.
“I hope (the voters) appreciate and
respect the job I am trying to do and
continue to support me.”
Inyart said he has no idea what
would happen if he lost the election
to an opponent, but wishes the win-
ner would see the progress that had
been done and continue it.
“I hope the accomplishments the
staff and I have made would contin-
ue on despite my presence...but then
again, I don’t plan on losing,” he said
as the smile returned to his face.

a permanent vice president for
business affairs start by April 1.

permanent successor for Cooley.
McCann said he applied for the
permanent position.
McCann has served as director
of business services/treasurer since
June 2006.
McCann has served as a partner
with the accounting firm of Doeh-
ring Winders and Co., LLP; as
chief financial officer with Behn-
ke and Co., Inc., a Decatur insur-
ance firm; and Murphey, Jen-
ne and Jones, now known as Peat
Marwick.
He received his bachelor’s
degree in business/accounting
from Augustana College in Rock
