I noticed you tried to produce the language on your own. Very good! I wrote some
comments about that but this is a very good exercise for you to practice written
production. In general, the outcome was achieved because you followed the
criteria and format but the description of the goal was too short. I would also
recommend you to work a bit more on the example (Item VI) by complementing the
information with a local reference. Have you seen/experienced any situation
related to ‘life under water’ in your community or city? It can also be a specific
situation happening in Maicolpué or Pucatrihue, such as the impact of extraction
laws on local angler’s work and lifestyle or the Chile’s protected sea areas.

II. Introduction

It is very normal that eating animals be justified with the nutrients that this “food” gives.
For example, fish, provides Omega3 and for the humans this fatty acid, means that the fish
must be caught, killed, cooked and finally put on a plate to eat it.

These daily actions deteriorate our marine ecosystem. People should find a much easier way
to obtain nutrients in a way that is not cruel. To continue with the fatty acid Omega 3, we
can compensate it with the chia and flax seeds, dried fruit such as walnuts, or olive oil. The
food that I just mentioned do not include animal cruelty in their processing.

III. Objective

14. Underwater Life

IV. Description of the objective:

I´m Tamara Cerón and today I want to talk to you about goal number 14 of the sustainable
development goals: Underwater life.

The main objective of Underwater Life is to protect our oceans. Reduce the overfishing, sea
pollution and the acidification of the oceans.

The oceans are an essential global resource, providing rain, clean water and oxygen to our
lives.

V. Why is this “Objective” important?

The objective is very important, therefore we must protect the oceans because they help to
cushion global warming by absorbing about 30 percent of the carbon dioxide produced by
humans.

VI. Example

This year, police arrested two people who violated the Fishing Law in Bahia Mansa
fishermen´s cove in the commune of San Juan de la Costa.
These two people carried concholepas, better known as “locos”, a kind of marine mollusk.
This mollusk is in a closed season, which means that it cannot be extracted from the sea.

Therefore, extracting fish or molluscs that are in a closed season is damaging the sea and
exploiting it.
