The recollection that we had was a fruitful one.

It was a good way to get your

mind off things and to spend some time contemplating our lives and especially our
relationship with the Almighty one. We were made to contemplate on how God looks at
us, on how God sees us as a person. It made me realize that how I see myself is
different from how God sees me. At times, if not all the time, I see myself as just an
ordinary person, nothing special, nothing fancy just your typical Joe who is not so smart
and does not have talent at all. But God sees is it differently. He sees me as an
extraordinary person capable of accomplishing many things. He sees me as a person
with a special worth, a person who is loved, and a person who knows how to love. I
realized that what matters most is how God sees us. We should see ourselves as how
God sees us. We should see ourselves positively and in the same way that looks at us
as a person. I have to believe in myself and look at myself as an extraordinary person
because that is how God sees me.

During the recollection, we were also made to read and contemplate verses from
the Bible, particularly from the books of Psalms, Jeremiah, and Isaiah. Reading these
verses made me realize that there is a God who loves us. There is a strong God who
will protect us from oppressors. The verses highlighted the reality that the world is rough
and there will always be enemies who will put us down. But we should not worry
because we have a strong and loving God who will always protect us from harm and will
always love us. He guarantees us victory and prosperity as long as we put our faith in
him.

Another important realization that I had during the recollection is to have a solid
long term goal. We were made to contemplate how we see ourselves ten years from
now. Of course we all want to be lawyers here, it is the very goal and the very end why
we are here in law school, but in the long run, what kind of a lawyer are you? We will all
be a different kind of lawyer, but the question boils down to what kind of a lawyer are
you? What is your advocacy? What is your long term goal? It reminded me of last
semester’s lecture “the good as end” which states that in order for us to achieve the
good; there must be an end, an end goal that you will seek to achieve; an end goal that
will give you direction. Currently, all of us have the same end goal, which is to pass the
bar and become a lawyer. It will take us blood, sweat, and tears in order for us to
achieve the end goal but at least we are already doing step one, which is studying in
law school and passing if not topping the subjects.
