Today’s Church in Room L6: Teacher: Rev. Dr. Carol Bechtel Christians have often been
confused as to how to appropriate the book of Esther. (Martin Luther said it was “full of
pagan naughtiness.”) In this class we well explore some of the ways this book can guide
modern Christians in how to be faithful in the midst of an unfaithful culture. The Rev. Dr.
Carol Bechtel is Professor of Old Testament at Western Theological Seminary in Holland,
Michigan. She recently served as President of the RCA’s General Synod and moderator of its
General Synod Council. She is author of several books and bible studies. She and her
husband have four children.
