FUNDAMENTAL OF MARTIAL ARTS

1. What is Taekwondo?
Taekwondo is derived from the Korean word “Tae” meaning foot, “Kwon” meaning fist
and “Do” meaning art or way. It is an art of self-defense involving the skilled application
of techniques that includes punches, strikes, kick, blocks, dodges, and interceptions with
the bare hands and feet to overpower an opponent. It is a discipline that shows ways of
enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind.

2. Enumerate the three (3) types of Kyorugi.


Poomse (Form)
Kyorugi (Sparring)
Kyukpa (Breaking)

3. Explain the Promotion Test.


The Promotion test is a practical examination wherein the participants are required to
demonstrate the required techniques for each rank. Promotion test is the standard
method to advance through the rank levels towards black belt.

4. Enumerate the Tenets of Taekwondo and explain.


 Self-Confidence- it is an attitude about your skills and abilities. This means that you
accept and trust yourself and know your strengths and weaknesses as well and have
a positive view of your self.
 Modesty- it is an attitude of a person which is not flash or showy. A modest person
can sure be self-confident, erudite and sophisticated. They can be so self-confident
that they don’t need any tricks above. They can have own styles and class. They
don’t need the approval or applause of others but are at ease with themself and
others.
 Indomitable Spirit- it is an attitude of a person which is not easily discouraged or
defeated. This attitude is they never give up or admit that they have been defeated.
 Perseverance- is an attitude of a person that never gives up and continuously giving
efforts to achieve his/her needs despite of difficulties or failure that may comes to
his/her life.
 Etiquette- it is a behavior that is accepted as gracious and polite. Good manners can
mean the difference between success and failure in many aspects of life. Knowing
and exhibiting proper etiquette is essential to any civilazations.

5. How to fold the uniform?


Step 1.
Lay the shirt and pants flat on the floor. Front up.
Step 2.
Fold the sleeves inward across the front of the collar. Fold the pants in half lengthwise.
Step 3.
Fold the pants in half again at the knee and place on top of the shirt.
Step 4.
Fold the left outside edge of shirt over the pants.
