Assignment 1: “Understanding religion as the way of life”

The Islamic finance is a very small part of the overall philosophy of Islam. Therefore, to understand
the Islamic finance, it is very important to understand the essence, philosophy, objective and laws of
Islam. This assignment is designed for the purpose to help students to understand the philosophy of
Islam as well as the philosophy of other major religions.

Guidelines:
1. Islamic finance is an application of Islamic religious ideals rules in dealing with financial
issues in our life based on Islamic guideline/ law, named Shariah. This is just an example of a
particular issue of in our life. Similarly, we can apply the religious guideline and principles in
every aspects of our life. Therefore, address the following issues:

 What is life and what is the purpose of life? 10 Marks

 Discuss what religion is and examine how it is useful for serving the purpose of life,
and why it is, in fact, the way of life providing guidance for activities in all aspects of
life. In other words, why religion is the best way of life and how can we apply
religious guidelines & philosophy in every aspects of our life? 10 marks
 For non-Muslim student groups: discuss very broadly about the way how the people
of your religion can get benefited from Islam. The discussion should include a short
comparison between your own religion and Islam in terms of ideals & goals,
philosophy & thought, vision & outlook, and not rituals.
For Muslim student group: discuss very broadly about the way how Non-Muslims
can get benefited from Islam and how Muslims can benefit from the ideals and
worldviews of other religions. 20 marks
 Explain how the ideals and worldview of your own religion can play role in
developing a desirable and most effective system of finance for sustainable
development to ensure social wellbeing based on equity and social justice. 10 marks

2. Students will form groups based on major religions, like Muslim group, Hindu group,
Buddhist group, Christian group. Collaborate with your group members while preparing
assignment and presentation. The list of students is given below to prepare religious groups

7. Each group will have 30 min for presentation, and each member of the group must
participate in the presentation & discussion.
8. Prepare the report of maximum 25 pages, time new roman, 12 font size, 1.0 line space, 1”
margin for all sides, A4 page, in MS Word file.
9. Give proper citation and arrange references as APA style.
10. Careful about plagiarism and submit softcopy through online portal and hard copy in class on
19 February.
