HP StorageWorks CAUTION!

Parts can be damaged by electrostatic

MSL2024 and MSL4048 until needed. Ensure you are properly grounded
when touching static sensitive components.

CAUTION! Powering down the master drive will
interrupt SCSI communication to the library and
robotics.

IMPORTANT: The HP StorageWorks MSL2024 tape


library can support one or two HP Ultrium 448 half-
height tape drives, or one HP Ultrium 960 full-height
tape drive.
The HP StorageWorks MSL4048 tape library can
support one or two full-height Ultrium 960 tape
drives(s), or up to four half-height HP Ultrium 448 tape.

Before removing the tape drive, make sure the tape
cartridge has been removed from the drive. Use the
Operator Control Panel or the Remote Management
Interface to unload a tape cartridge.

NOTE: When replacing one drive in a multiple


drive configuration, you can power down the
drive being replaced using the Operator Control
Panel (provided it is NOT the Master drive)
without interrupting power to the library and Loosen the blue captive thumbscrews on the drive.

When replacing a Master drive, or a single
drive in a single drive library, verify that all
backups have completed processing. Power off
the library and unplug the power cord.

Pull straight back on the tape drive handle while
supporting the bottom of the drive to remove it from the
library.
Remove the SCSI cable(s) and terminator, if applicable,
from the tape drive being replaced. CAUTION! Support the bottom of the tape drive
when removing it from the library to avoid
damaging any of the internal connections.

CAUTION! Push in on the tape drive handle while
supporting the bottom of the tape drive until it is
properly seated. Damage to the connector pins
may occur if this procedure is not followed.

NOTE: Before installing the new drive, inspect


the connectors on the tape drive. Ensure that the
connectors are intact, free of any foreign objects,
and have no cracks or deformed or bent
contacts.

Confirm the library is recognizing the new tape drive


by checking the System Status screen on the Operator
Control Panel.

Getting Help
Slowly align and insert the new tape drive into the

Connect the SCSI cable(s), and if applicable, the
