Thank you...
I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for taking up the call of
leading various ministries within our community. As a department, we have never
had a formal servant/leadership team. Therefore, I am very excited that we have
been able to put a team together in 2011. It is my prayer that we will not just work to
get things done but that we will do it with the right heart. What is more, I pray that
as a team, we will become an example of how Christian leaders are to serve and work
together as a team.
Being the first leadership manual, much of this manual will be about laying out
the vision for our ministry and the kind of ministry team we want to create. Perhaps
future manuals can deal more with the skills of being a Christian leader.
May the Lord give us the wisdom and strength we need to serve His people
who are in our community.

Ministry Vision for 2011
Our ministry vision for 2011 is two-fold.
First, we want to try to establish and nurture our community vision. I suppose
there are many reasons why our ministry has stayed stagnant in the past couple of
years or so. However, the greatest reason I believe is a lack of vision. Having been
in this church for about 4 months, one thing I have noticed is that while our leaders
and the rest of our church genuinely want what’s best for our ministry, they do not
necessarily have a clear vision for our ministry. Who are we? What is the purpose of
our existence? Where do we need to go? What do we need to do in order to get
there? Unfortunately, such questions have not been asked in our church. So I
believe this is where we as a leadership team need to begin and first ask these
questions to ourselves. Once we formulate answers, we then need to educate those
in our community along with the rest of our church.
Second, we want to try to put our ministry on the map. It is no secret that
DMC is not known for its EM in the Korean church community. What is
surprising, however, is that even some within our own church do not know that we
have an adult EM. Many within our church who in another church context would be
in the EM do not come to our ministry. If this is a result of their own choice and
calling to be in a KM department, we bless them. However, if there are some who
choose another department because we have not been a viable option for them, we
want to help change that situation.

are mentioned below. With that said, we will begin with areas where we have more
immediate needs.

First, I am deeply honoured and humbled to be in a leadership position for
Oikos Ministry. Even-though I do not have the experience or the skill set in this
field I will do my best to coordinate/manage and help to achieve the goals we set.
When it comes to multimedia the options are endless but with a ministry of
endless possibilities it is quite important to build upon a good foundation. That way
whatever we build on top thereafter will also be sound. Because we are just starting
off, 2011 is going to be a important and a busy year for us so I hope to progress right
away.
Mission Statement:

Ministry Ethos
Relationship as a foundation for Ministry
At the center of everything, I believe that there is relationship. When we come
to the account of Genesis we read, “In the beginning, God…” (Genesis 1:1).
Throughout the rest of God’s revelation in the Bible, we learn that this is a God who
exists in the Trinity. In other words, the God we serve is a God who lives in
diversity within perfect unity, in a perfect Trinitarian relationship. And as we read
further into the creation account, we see that it was out of this Trinitarian
relationship that God forms everything. In fact, in the story of man’s creation, God
says, “Let us create man in our image” (1: 26). So relationship is at the core of who
God is.
The rest of the Canon story may be interpreted as a story of this same
Trinitarian God extending Himself to human beings, thus bringing His creatures
into the ongoing fellowship within Himself. This is why Apostle Paul in 2
Corinthians writes, “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through
Christ” (5:18). Reading further in this verse, it is clear that in addition to reconciling
us to Himself, He has given us a call to be agents of this same reconciliation as well.
However, growing up in a Korean church context, I have observed that we have
not always done a good job in carrying out this mission. Indeed, as people of 1.5 and
2 generation Korean Christians in Canada, our memory of church is often filled
nd
with infighting, division and even church-splits. As a result, God put it strongly on
my heart to treat relationship very seriously. In fact, it is my hope that all the
ministries that we do as a team will stem from, and flow out of relationship that we
have not only with God but also with one another.
Team Ministry
Looking at our God of the Trinity, we see that the Father, the Son and the
Holy Spirit work together in perfect unity in accomplishing the work of salvation.
The three are completely equal but each has a different role to play. It is my desire
that as a team of leaders, we would model our approach to ministry after our
Trinitarian God. Not one of us is better than the other; the pastor is not higher
than any of the other leaders. We are all equal before God. Each of us simply plays a
different role, all for the sole purpose of building God’s church.
I also support team ministry because it is practical. It is impossible for one
11
pastor to carry on the church’s mission all by him or herself. What is more, working
in a team moves us beyond our own blind spots. It also keeps individual pride from
creeping into our midst because we are doing it all together. It also keeps us strong
as we can provide physical, emotional and spiritual support to one another. By
creating a circle of leadership with Christ as our center, we keep our enemy from
breaking in.
Leaders’ Meeting
I find that sometimes we meet so much that all our time is spent on
doing…meetings! To prevent that from happening, I will try to correspond with
each leader and assist her or him individually as the needs arise. With that said, it
will still be good for us to meet together time to time. So I would like to call for a
leadership meeting once every two months. I hope that you can make time to join us
for every meeting since we will not be meeting all that frequently throughout the
year.
In Conclusion…
Well friends, there you have it, our first ever leadership team manual! Thanks
for reading through it. I am so blessed to be serving our community with such a
wonderful group of dedicated and God-loving servants. May our Awesome Lord be
truly glorified as we bring our hearts, minds and hands in serving Him together in
2011.
