Did you know?

 Person affected by the practice of untouchability may approach the Police Station
covering the area of such incidence and register First Information Report(FIR) as per
provision under Sections 3 to 7 of the Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1955.
 The affected person may file an First Information Report (FIR) in the Police Station
of the area as per provision under Section 3 of the Scheduled Castes and the
Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
 The offenders of such offences shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term
which shall not be less than six months but which may extend to five years and with
fine.
 Relief is provided as under

Murder of earning member- Rs. 2 lakhs

Murder of non - earning member - Rs. 1 lakhs

100% incapacitation - Rs.1 lakh

Sexual exploitation of a woman - Rs.50,000/-

GLOSSARY

1. Atrocity: an extremely wicked or cruel act, typically one involving physical violence
or injury.
2. Offence: offence denotes a thing punishable under this Code, or under any special or
local law
3. Special Public prosecutor means a Public Prosecutor or an advocate who has been in
practice as an advocate for not less than seven years, as a Special Public Prosecutor for the
purpose of conducting cases in that Court.
4. Scheduled Castes means such cases, races or tribes or parts of or groups within such
castes, races or tribes as are deemed under Article 341 to be Scheduled Castes for the
purposes of this Constitution;
5. Scheduled Tribes means such tribes or tribal communities or parts of or groups
within such tribes or tribal communities as are deemed under Article 342 to be
Scheduled Tribes for the purposes of this Constitution;
6. Special Court: Specialized courts are defined as tribunals of narrowly focused
jurisdiction to which all cases that fall within that jurisdiction are routed. Judges who
serve on a specialized court are considered specialists, even experts, in the fields of
the law that fall within the court's jurisdiction.
