Merchant Banking
merchant banking may be defined as,¶ An institution which covers a wide range of activities such
as Management of customer services, Portfolio management, Credit syndication, Counseling,
Insurance etc.
HIRE PURCHASE
Hire purchase is a method of selling goods. In a hire purchase transaction the goods are let out on
hire by a finance company (creditor) to the hire purchase customer (hirer). The buyer is required
to pay an agreed amount in periodical installments during a given period. The ownership of
property remains with creditor and passes on to hire on the payment of last installment.
LEASING
Leasing as a financing concept, is an arrangement between two parties, the leasing company or
lesser and the user or lessee, whereby the former arranges to buy capital equipment for the use of
the letter for an agreed period of time in return for the payment of rent. The rentals are
predetermined and payable at fixed intervals of time, according to the mutual convenience of
both the parties. However, the lesser remains the owner of the equipment over a primary period.

VENTURE CAPITAL :
Venture capital is long term risk capital to finance high technology projects which involve risk
but at the same time has strong potential for growth. Venture capitalist pools their resources
including managerial abilities to assist new entrepreneur in the early years of the project. Once
the project reaches the stage of profitability, they sell their equity holdings at high premium.

plastic card issued to users of the system. A user is issued a credit card after an account has been
