Huskies Look Forward to Spring Competition
The Huskies will begin their
competitive season long before
Connecticut golfers normally hit
the links. While the temperatures
are low and the snow is still piled on
the fairways and greens of
Connecticut golf courses, the
Huskies will head south to tee it up
in against some of the nation’s
toughest competition.
The team’s first appearance will be
for the annual Nutmeg match at
Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club in
Jupiter, Florida. This friendly
competition is their annual alumni
match where former and current
Huskies gather together for a
friendly afternoon of fun. It also
gives the players a chance to hit
outside for the first time all year in
preparation for their spring
tournaments.
The next weekend the team will
travel to the TPC of Tampa Bay to
compete in DePaul University’s
Tournament.
President’s Day weekend, the team
will head to Hilton Head to play in
the Wexford College Intercollegiate
hosted by Francis Marion
University. The men will attempt to
take on the Wexford Plantation
Golf Club against a strong field.
The team then returns to Storrs for
classes for a week before taking a
team trip over Spring Break. The
entire team will travel to warmer
climates during the first week of
March. The guys will compete in
the Carribean Intercollegiate in
Puerto Rico on March 7!9 hosted by
St. John’s University. The team will
also be in Florida to play and
practice at some of the facilities
that Florida has to o"er.
The team will have a weekend o"
before heading back south for the
the FAU Spring Break
championship during the final
weekend of March. This
tournament at Gleneagles CC in
Delray Beach, FL will feature
another strong field of competitive
Southern teams.
After another o" week, the team
will compete in their first and only
tournament of the Spring in the
Northeast when they will revisit the
famed Newport National CC in
Newport, RI for the New England
Division I Championships against
the best teams from all divisions
around New England.
The very next weekend will be the
biggest test of the year for the
Huskies when they travel to
Innisbrook Resort & CC for the
BigEast Championship. This is the
tournament that they prepare for
the whole year because it is the road
that leads to the National
Championship. A good finish at
Innisbrook will garner a bid to the
NCAA East Regional where
another top finish will lead to a spot
in the national Championship.

When did you star playing

started?
My father put a golf club in
my hand when i could walk.
I played on a course at
about 6 or 7 for the first
time.
What attracted you to play
golf at UConn?
I loved the UConn campus
and i felt it was my best
chance to play right away.
What is the best part about
being at UConn?
I love the small town
atmosphere and the great
athletics programs. our
team has great chemistry
and its great to always be
around them.

While it is hard to get out to the

course in the Winter months,
you can still maintain some
aspects of your game. It may be
hard to hit drivers and irons,
however, it is possible to keep
the basics of short putting
intact. During the season, I
often notice that most amateurs
struggle with their short putting.
Often times it is a result of lack
of practice as well as an increase
of gimmies during Saturday skins
matches. One drill to practice
your short putting is to practice
them on any carpet in your
house. You can put some sort of
coin down and then practice
hitting puts from short
distances. One drill that we use
with the team is they need to hit
5 putts in a row from 1 foot, 2
feet, 3 feet, 4 feet, and all the
way up to 7 feet. If you miss your

putt, you must star back and go again until you make
