Barito Basin was considered has a same potential with Kutei Basin in northern side. Some
proven oil and gas fields exist in Barito Basin, but still many explorations drilling are not
satisfactoring and haven’t meet previous expectation with Kutei Basin potential.
Post Mortem analysis conducted to determine main failure factors of exploration from
geoscience point of view in Barito Basin. The analysis integrated well and seismic data and
focused on three evaluations that are reservoir quality, charging, and hydrocarbon
preservation.
Analysis on Northern block of Barito Basin in Kerendan and Buntok Field found that
petrophysical heterogenity (tight / low permeability), and no structural association are the main
failure factors in this block. In Southern block of basin, dry wells found to have similar
conditions which determined as the main failure factors in this block. The factors are no
structural associtation and lack of trap integrity (minimum appearance of closure).
Post mortem analysis gives a suggestion for next exploration to explore the area which
associated with geological structure like Adang Fault and Meratus High, also exploration on
stratigraphic trap near main depocenter to increase the success rate.
