3. Highlights of the Lesson / Content to be covered (Only discussion):
1. Democracy is a system in which the government of a country is elected by the people.
2. Democracy means government is to the people, for the people, by the people.
3. A good democratic government is possible only if people are aware of their rights and duties.
4. Democracy also means that all citizens are free to express their opinions.
5. Voting is the right as well as duty of a citizen in a democracy.
6. Every five years elections are held in our country for both central and state legislature.
7. A person who is 18 years and above can vote in elections.
8. The party that wins the majority of seats in the legislature forms the government.
9. Many a times a single party does not get a clear majority in that case group of parties combine
to form a the government. This is known as coalition government.
10. The parties that are in the minority form the opposition.
11. Our country follows the system of representative government.
12. As voters, people should not be misled in the name of caste, religion or regional loyalties.
13. A good democratic government is possible only if people are aware of their rights and duties.
14. Elections for both Central and State legislatures are normally held every five years.
15. As voters, people should not be misled in the name of caste, religion and regional loyalties.
16. Awareness among citizens, enlightened and wise leadership, sound public opinion, tolerance,
disciplined citizens, discipline in political parties and social and economic equalities are the
essentials for a successful democratic government.
17. Many agencies help people in forming their opinions on any issue or problems.
18. India is divided into many segments because of water conflicts.

4. Major Activities / Practicals to be done:


4.1. Activity by the teacher:
4.1.1. Teacher will arrange election for class monitor. Teacher will choose candidates.
Teacher will make necessary arrangements like slips for voting, ballot box, and counting
of votes.
All the students will vote for their candidate on the election slip provided. After that
teacher will collect the slips and the student with majority of votes will be the monitor of
that class.

4.2.1 Participate in the activity arranged by the teacher.

Lecture 1: Explain democracy and representative democracy. Explain elections. And right to vote.
